無肉食 (English name: Ahimsa Buffet) first opened in North Point, I gave it a try and really REALLY loved it. It was cheap with plenty of food. A buffet for vegetarians. What more can you ask for? Cheap vegetarian! Due to popularity, they have opened up two new locations. One in Jordan and one in Mong Kok. I decided to try the Mong Kok branch. The Mong Kok branch is easy to find. The Mong Kok branch is easy to find. It's located in a new building that is right across the street from The Forest. So, if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for Green Common, you can come here.
Prices are simple. It's $68 for lunch one weedays. $78 on weekends and public holidays. $118 for dinner on weekddays. $138 on weekends and public holidays. There is no 10% service charge.
The sign says to pay first where you will find a seat with an empty plate that you use for getting items from the buffet table. After you eat, bring your tableware to the back of the room where you throw away your own trash and separate your dishes, etc to the appropriate plastic boxes for dishwashing.
However, when I arrived, I didn't pay first but when I left. They still led me to a table where they gave me the number of plates we had in our party. I guess they go by the honor system.
The buffet table has a good variety of items and they are constantly restocked. They had tea and ginger tea as well!
They had soup of the day and this was a coconut, corn and carrot Chinese soup. Delicious!
They had lots of vegetables of every sort. Vegetarian curries. They even had a potato salad made with eggless mayo but they said it was made of milk.
This place had a vegan chocolate cake that I thought was very rich and moist. Along with Chinese desserts as well. And if you're quick (which I wasn't), they had Japanese fruit like cantelope and mini mikin.
The good thing about this place is, it's cheap. The food also has a decent variety and seasoned nicely. They also used more natural ingredients and none of the "fake meat" that is so popular in vegetarian dining now a days. There was no guessing games as to what the food was made of. It was tofu. It was green leafy vegetables. No fake sushi here. They also constantly refill. People aren't overly pushy as well as I was fearful of how it would be in Mong Kok. A great option for vegetarian dining and I'll be back.
