Given the overwhelming positive openrice reviews, we decided to give it a try on a Saturday night. The place was run by a single Japanese chef serving 9 guests at the same time - I do give him credit for being pretty fast even with this chef to guest ratio (dinner took about 1.5 hours, about average). The food is the weird part. One of the sashimi was tuna wrapped around a piece of seared fatty engawa and squid - did not work at all. Another was some kind of fish wrapped around scallop topped with uni - also very weird and did not work. The nigiri sushi were fine, and the slightly unusual grilled oyster nigiri was surprisingly good.
Then we were served the uni course. We didn't choose the pricier menu since we were not that hungry so instead of a small uni don, we were served a store bought uni cracker topped with uni. SO WEIRD. The synthetic flavour of the uni cracker along with the tough cracker totally did not work with uni sashimi and I was astounded that any chef would do that let alone a Japanese chef.
Overall, pretty pricey menu ($1388 for our set) for its location and quality. I guess people like him since the chef tried to be funny all the time.
