Date/time of visit: 13 July 2011, 1:45pmA while ago my mum bought a groupon for a promotional lunch set for 2 called 辛口七味美国.向螺带子米薄饼套餐 (Shichimi Conch. Scallop Rice Pizza) The original price stated at the menu was HKD $328.8 + 10% charge, my mum bought the groupon for HKD$188 instead. You might think this is a great discount, but to one's surprise, it was actually very disappointing and not worth the money at all. I genuinely wonder how would toi promote this set meal later on with such poor food

I genuinely wonder how would toi promote this set meal later on with such poor food...
Atmosphere: toi at Shatin was very small and packed. Tables were extremly small. We went during a weekday but the restaurant was filled with families and kids. I could hear a kid screaming and crying for every 10 minutes at somewhere nearby...it was such a chaotic lunch that I did not enjoy at all!!
Apart from choosing the pasta and flavour of the rice pizza, everything else were fixed as shown on the menu.
Food: (in order of serving - a mess!) STARTERS: Pumpkin soup + garlic bread: The serving portion of both soup and garlic bread were quite small - but oh well I didn't expect them to be of a regular size at such a restaurant on the first place anyway..For the soup, it was OK. Quite watery I must say, nothing special caught my attention. As for the garlic bread, I disliked its crispiness and lacked of garlic flavour. The garlic bread was not fresh and the garlic dressing was quite badly done... MAIN: Beef cube & kimchi in kimchi sauce The appearance was attractive and smelled of a strong kimchi flavour that caught me in joy for the first few minutes. When we were about to start, we realised, where were the plates?? The waiters were extremly passive in taking care of customers - no one gave us any plates unless we asked them for each course! Is this so-called "service"? For this pasta, I had my hope high because I loved kimchi! And, thank god, the flavour of kimchi was quite impressive when frying with spaghetti. However, the spaghetti was quite soaked by the kimchi sauce that it quickly went 'soup-like'.The spaghetti hardened as I had my bite - surely the cook let them cooled down for too long before frying with the kimchi.. The beef was very badly cooked: two words - TOO HARD!! Both my mum and I had a hard time chewing it....cooking beef cutlets were not supposed to be a hard task! How could one cook them so badly? APPETIZERS: Snacks Combo The portion was shockingly small and not too presentable..as though they only picked two pieces of each snacks from the kitchen! The dumplings were average - just like the kinds that you would manage to cook at home. As for the spare ribs, my mum said there were rarely any meat at all - felt cheated but we kept that to ourselves.. MAIN: Teriyaki sauce of rice pizza 7'' Finally - the signature dish of toi! Visually it looked the best out of all dishes. And did the taste of it matched with the apperance? Sadly, NO The 响螺 (scallops?) were POORLY COOKED! They were salty and tough! Their shelves together were big enough to cover the top of the rice pizza - looked grand but nothing of that sort. We were so diappointed and angry! As for the rice pizza, it was way better than the 响螺. I loved the cheese and the base as rice - special and tasty. Though it was slightly oily in contrast to the plain flavour of the rice pizza. DRINKS: Cold Lemon teas The drinks were probably the best out of all (how shocking..)! They were big and worthed the money. You don't even get this size at "cha chan tang"! Dessert Combo We waited for at least 30 minutes for the dessert...since this was the last dish, after all the disappointments, we really did not like the waiting. Thanks to the crying baby beside me that occupied my waiting time in amusement. The dessert combo was not bad - the ice cream tasted milky and smooth, definitely better than expected. The egg custard was fine. As for the deep fried 年糕, it could have been better if it was less hard and chewy. P.S. The most amusing thing I found about toi was not only on its food, but also the size of the plate, cutlery and table. I really did not get it - when your plate is extremly small for eating pasta and rice pizza (!!!), in comparison, why would toi use such giant cutlery?! It was VERY VERY inconvenient for the customers, not to mention where to place them after you finished a course, given the size of the table being so tiny for two..
In one sentence - toi is too disappointing for me to return ever again - never had I seen such poor atmosphere, service, food and even cutlery!
