Last year, I noticed a new restaurant was about to open in Plaza Hollywood; but, I was only able to try Pasta De Waraku this year. To reward myself, I picked this place to celebrate my birthday. We arrived quite early (11:30 a.m.) The place was almost empty. Since our party's members were not all present, the waitress made us wait. We sat on comfy dining chairs in front of the store. We only had time for a two minute chat when the waitress, who was nice enough, let us in even though it was a Saturday and was bound to get busy around lunch time.
A smart thing about this place is its structure. The 3D display lets people see what the food looks like which also saves time for those lining up.There are two sections at Waraku: one is more private and the other more open. The latter one makes it easy for people to recognize their friends from afar.
Everything we ordered was good. The Oyster Carbonara was fun to eat. We thought that there might only be one oyster is the whole dish, but as we served ourselves we found more. The mayonnaise and squid ink sauce complimented the chewy BBQ squid well. The plate of mixed mushrooms was sizzling hot and let out a sweet aroma. The pizza was crunchy and thin. Its lightness did not make us too full for more food. The Fried Tofu had a sweet and sour sauce, and pepper and salt to spice things up. Yummy! One little disappointment was the Baked Rice Cake. Because it took a long time to make, we almost forgot about it. By the time it arrived, we were already quite full. The dish was too sticky; it was hard to scrape the rice cake off from the plate. Although, it did not taste bad it was really hard to eat. Who said eating was an easy task? Sometimes one has to use force to get food.
Besides the little adventure with the rice cake, learning how to avoid physical contact with the waitresses is a bonus. Most of them do not know the best spot to serve. When refilling cups with water, one should stand closer to the cup and not disrupt the customer's meal. Other than that, everything else is fine. Next time, I have to use my Waraku coupons.
