We have always been fans of Pirata restaurants and forward looking forward to our booking on the weekend. Even though we arrived on time, we were asked to wait in the bar area amongst huge crowds of rowdy guests (presumably who just finished their meal). 15 minutes later when we were finally brought in, the restaurant was actually not full at all. This was also under the Restaurant Week promotions, $198 per person lunch deal. The options for choosing were the Tandoori and the Curry.
Tandoori options included (1) chicken tikka (2) tandoor gobi (3) wagyu beef kebabs (add +$38). The menu states “choose one per person”.
Curry options included (1) butter chicken curry (2) vegan kofta curry and (3) fish curry (add +$38). The menu also states “choose one per person”.
We were a table of 2.
The starters were alright, full of flavour but overall quite average. For the tandoori we chose the beef kebab and chicken tikka. For the curry, we picked butter chicken and fish curry. In terms of flavour, the chicken tikka was done well, it was tender and juicy. The beef kebab was flavourful but the appearance was rather horrible. What’s worse, we were charged $38 PER PIECE of beef kebab, even though the menu states choose one PER PERSON.
The curries were both not up to standard. Fish curry was watery and had a Thai flavour, whilst the chicken in the butter chicken was tough.
Dessert was “Chaiwala carrot cake” which was nothing other than very regular cake mix carrot cake, dry with a dollop of cream.
Overall, disappointing service and very below average food. Not to be recommended at all, and a let down to the overall Pirata reputation.
