I usually do not write much nor comment online but Bibi and Baba is a restaurant that aims for failure solely with their operation manager, Michael.
His truly exceptional bad attitude towards me, my friends and my family makes me stop and wonder if he’s either a racist or sexist as he was being so friendly or even flirtatious to the Caucasian ladies in front of me. These ladies do not have a reservation but he claims he will go out of his way to get them a table and yet we arrived WITH a reservation and he had the audacity, with his arrogant and pretentious attitude, to ask us “who are you?!” After telling him I have a reservation, he said with his obnoxious attitude “Oh, you are late.” I genuinely explained to him as there was a terrible car accident on the way to the restaurant (which by the way, we already called in advance to notify them we will be 10 minutes late), he replied offensively and egotistically, “this time we will host you, but not again.” Throughout the entire meal he was giving me and my family nasty, malicious looks whenever he passed by our table.
This meal was supposed to be a happy and pleasant meal as we went there to celebrate my sister’s birthday. I’ve called in advance if they can arrange us a birthday cake, and unfortunately, they said their pastry chef wasn’t ready yet. Hence, I asked the head chef, Vinoq, if it is possible for us to bring our own cake and cut it there, to which he replied "no problem". This morning I called the restaurant again to inform them I will bring a cake with me which would need to be in the fridge while we’re eating. A man's voice (which I assume is Michael as he’s always the one picking up phone calls) said it would be a cutting cake fee of $25 per person, to which I said "fine no problem". However, when we arrived to the restaurant, the price for some reason SUDDENLY became $50. After I told them I have spoken to both the chef Vinoq and Michael earlier this morning confirming it’s $25 per person, they replied saying "sure, then we’ll lower it to $25 for you". I can’t help but feel very irritated. I wonder if I am in a flea market where I would negotiate the price. Why am I being charged an extra $25? Shouldn’t they have a standard price for different procedures like corkage, cake cutting, etc? Do they charge the price differently depending on my race or simply depending on their mood for the day? We were here to celebrate my sister’s birthday lunch after hearing so much about this restaurant which only resulted in a terrible experience to which I myself am embarrassed to have brought them here. I stand clear: I DO NOT recommend anyone to go.
I have already once complained to the chef Vinoq about Michael’s atrocious attitude when I was here the first time and while I was hoping for a better experience the second time around, but no. Michael is someone that needs to be removed immediately, not only from Bibi and Baba, but the entirety of the Hong Kong Hospitality Industry.
