I’d researched this place as one of the best places in Hong Kong for claypot rice. The meal was good- though not worth all the hype. The service and hospitality would be why I recommend this joint.

Here’s what we ordered:
frog (田鸡) claypot rice
Often when you order a claypot rice, the rice directly touching the pot is inedible as it’s charred near-black. That wasn’t the case here, as the rice directly touching the pot was enjoyable crispy. They even teach you in the video outside the place to put all the meat and veggies into the lid and to flip over the rice so you can first enjoy the crispy parts that have been touching the pot. It was nice to have this dish where none of the rice was wasted.
The frog meat was tasty, and served with some dark stripped vegetables my dining partner explained to me (though I can’t recall their name). Notably, the server did not drown the pot in soy sauce when it arrived, but rather poured in a ‘taste’ of the soy, allowing us to enhance the pot’s flavour as we pleased.

deep-fried chicken wings
The chicken wings were also tasty, being served with flavourful deep-fried garlic (something my partner explained was usually reserved for crab dishes).

Lettuce [nothing notable]

service
I called a few hours prior to our arrival, doubtful that they took reservations, though to my surprise they did. I showed up before my friend did, though checked in with the place just to give them a heads up about my reservation. The lady at the cashier’s counter was most hospitable. It was obvious she was the owner of the place. As I waited outside, I watched the TV they had outside which was repeating a HK television show special which had featured the restaurant. It was there I learned what the proper method of eating claypot rice was.

After my friend arrived, there weren’t any booths available, so we were seated at a large round table with a couple people waiting for their take-out orders. The owner announced to one of the employees that since I had called beforehand, I should get the booth he was cleaning. Once again, the owner gave me a warm fuzzy feeling- many places would have tried to pull a fast one on us, thinking we’d be content at this larger table just so they wouldn’t have to move us.

The place is alright, though I’ll have to continue my search for Hong Kong’s best claypot rice joint.
