Ever since the first time I’ve visited 616 hot pot in Tai Wo, I’ve always wanted to go back for more amazing beef hot pot. I’m glad that they’ve branched out to other parts of Hong Kong, and there’s a conveniently located store in Sai Ying Pun. The interior decoration is a lot more intricate and stylish than the other branches I’ve seen. It follows the popular “old Hong Kong” style trope, which brings out a sense of nostalgia. They even have an old arcade game in the waiting area so you can play
The interior decoration is a lot more intricate and stylish than the other branches I’ve seen. It follows the popular “old Hong Kong” style trope, which brings out a sense of nostalgia. They even have an old arcade game in the waiting area so you can play whilst waiting for a table. Despite having to wait for around half an hour, it didn’t feel like it at all because we were so absorbed in the game!
When we were seated, we were famished and the electronic menu makes it easy to order quickly.
We chose the simple Cow Bone soup base, which could’ve used a little more flavour, but does well to bring out the natural taste of the beef. Most of the selections of beef vary from $48-$68. The restaurant tells you in detail, as you click onto the icons, the texture and taste of each type of beef. They also include information on how many seconds you should cook the beef for, as every part has a different time. Who would’ve known?
We ordered 5 types of beef, amongst other items:
My favourite was probably the 封门柳 because it was lean and didn’t have much fat, which I personally like - and there're apparently only two pieces of this meat in each cow.
We also ordered udon and a few drinks to complete the meal!
