After waking up from a night shift, I felt like pancakes so decided to try this place as it was listed on Openrice. The decor was sweet and cozy. The menu was filled with hand drawn pictures of the food.I ordered the green tea pancakes with azuki beans and my boyfriend ordered the pancakes with bacon and an omelette. Originally it came with tomato sauce but he asked to change the sauce to apple butter so we had that instead. The menu didn't have a drinks section and we noticed the people around
I ordered the green tea pancakes with azuki beans and my boyfriend ordered the pancakes with bacon and an omelette. Originally it came with tomato sauce but he asked to change the sauce to apple butter so we had that instead. The menu didn't have a drinks section and we noticed the people around us were only drinking water. The waiter gave us two glasses of water from very wet glasses. It appeared that they were just cleaned and they didn't bother to dry them. While waiting for our food, we noticed that the waiters didn't clear the tables when customers left. And when new customers came, they just moved the dirty dishes from one table to the next. The counter where the kitchen brought out the food was also piled with dirty dishes. Was the dishwasher on vacation? Did they have a dishwasher? They also gave us a pouch of plastic utensils and a napkin like it was take away. Not too environmentally friendly.
At least the food was great. The pancakes were fluffy. The omelette was like the Japanese kind and just melted in my mouth. The apple butter was tasty. My green tea pancakes had lots of soft sweet cream.
It seems the kitchen staff doing a fantastic job. However, the front of house staff need a lot of work. When ordering or even asking how to pay, they responded in a bored nonchalant way. They also didn't bother to clean the tables from dirty dishes. And it wasn't a busy afternoon. I can't imagine if they become busy what the state of the dishes would be. No matter how good the food is, having dirty dishes all over makes it not pleasing. I hope they improve.
