After mom's dinner party I discovered 3 leftover Zoe pastries in our fridge - what a very unexpected pleasant surprise! Another "leftover Zoe adventure"!1. Mango Tango: Tried this first because I've never had this before. Layers of sponge cake sandwiched with cream and a layer of mousse on top - the cake was bursting with real mango flavors, and I especially liked the sponge layer. 2. Lemon Cheesecake: Because I didn't buy these pastries I am not sure what cheesecake it is exactly but it definitely looked like a dense cheesecake at first sight. the outer layer is drier as a result of the baking process, there is a distinct, very refreshing lemon taste once you reach the middle which is also slightly more moist. The lemon taste is a lot like tarte au citron, but of course the texture is different. I'd say this is my favorite - it's simplicity perfected!
3. 1459: The classic Zoe pastry. 2 layers of custard sandwiched between 3 puff pastry squares. The puff pastry is quite thin and has a faint buttery aroma when you bite into it, and the custard is like velvet.
Zoe does live up to its reputation in regards to quality, but at this price (if I remember correctly it's about $30 each?), I'd only have it as an occasional treat.
