Some of my friends were thinking of moving to Kennedy town, so I thought I might peek over there and see what it's like. Personally, I'm happy here in Sheung Wan, but I did get to sample some nice Belgian food.We arrived promptly at the time of our reservation, but we were told only the bar seating was available. I'll admit to being slightly miffed. If I make a reservation, you should either seat me at a table, or let me know when I make the reservation that you can't do that. Additionally, when
We arrived promptly at the time of our reservation, but we were told only the bar seating was available. I'll admit to being slightly miffed. If I make a reservation, you should either seat me at a table, or let me know when I make the reservation that you can't do that.
Additionally, when we arrived the door to the restaurant was locked. We had to knock to get in. Who does that? We had four beers together. I'll mention two. First, Hopus (RateBeer 85) 8.3% abv, sweet and flavorful. Lamoral (RateBeer 72) 8% abv, I preferred the Hopus.
One thing about the beer: there's one menu for the whole restaurant and it's on an ipad. That's relatively inconvenient, especially as one wants time to pore over all the beer, but here's the kicker: not all of the beers on the tablet do they have. Isn't the point of a digital menu that you can update it in real time? I liked all the sausages in the platter. My favorite was the white one, my least favorite the red one, as ususal. It's not a very big platter. Good, B. The menu is not very extensive: it's mostly pasta, mussels, and a few appetizers. Since I don't go to Belgian joints for pasta, it was mussels time. The mussels are perfectly tender and juicy. I'm not a huge mussels fan, but I could eat these all day. They were in a delicious creamy sauce that I put on my fries, my croquettes, and the beds of cabbage that came with the sausages and croquettes. I should have done what the reviewer below me did and ask for some bread, because it was some seriously good sauce. (Probably horrible for your health.) Great, B+ The fries were definitely good, but reflecting on the dozens of occasions I've had better Belgian fries, I have to give them just a B. I thought the croquettes were exceptional however. They were beautifully golden and shiny, and came out excellently crisped. Definitely a good accompaniment for the mussels, because dipped in the cream sauce they were ambrosiacal, or whatever the word for that is. It's easy to do good croquettes, but rarely are they excellent. Excellent, A
The menu's limited and basically the only reason to come here is if you want mussels and fries. It's not even a "stop in for a few Belgian beers" place, because it's so small. But they do have good mussels and fries, so there you go.
題外話/補充資料:
I put my table wait time as 8 but I want you to read that sideways as "infinity" because we never got a table.
