Despite the bad comments we've heard about it so far, we came here for a try. There were more people than we expected, mainly caucasians. Guess this is the only burger place around IFC area so if you're hunger for one you don't have other options. The waitress was nice enough to pass us the menu and said she would find 2 seats for us after we ordered. Quite a few choices on the menu and felt a bit pressurized having to order asap as people are lining up behind. We just ordered the basic Fernard

The waitress was nice enough to pass us the menu and said she would find 2 seats for us after we ordered. Quite a few choices on the menu and felt a bit pressurized having to order asap as people are lining up behind. We just ordered the basic Fernard one and another one with tomatoes, as 2 combo to come with fries & softdrink and paid $175 & $165 each. We turned around after we ordered and the waitress disappeared. So we just grabbed a seat on our own. All tables and chairs are so close to each other and you can barely walk through.

Burgers tasted really so so. The bread is not warm and it just feels like some quick meal a person make on his own at home just for filling the stomache but not the taste at all. The fries are basically soft,thin and tasteless, if without the little seasonings they sprinkles on top of it.

Once is more than enough.

最近報章雜誌都講緊新開的幾間漢堡包店,三選一的請況下選了BIG FERNAND。(只因地點方便,係ifc,晚飯前後可以shopping) BIG FERNAND賣的是法式漢堡,我點了的le Barthelome (店員介紹)有bacon, Reclette cheese和煮熟左既焦糖洋蔥。我諗美式同法式漢堡最大的分別係包裡完全冇生既配菜(蕃茄、生菜呢D美式漢堡常用的配菜),好鐘意呀!成個包熱辣辣,同埋D菜應該醃過,所以成個包好有味。加埋Reclette cheese(本人覺得係成個包既靈魂)味道就更加rich。單買個包$135,加$40有薯條和飲品。朋友ORDER既小牛肉漢堡,用的竟然是blue cheese!我只係咬左一啖,感覺好複雜。朋友卻鍾意到不得了。總恬黎講,我唔知香港仲有冇其他餐廳供應法式漢堡,但本人覺得絕對值得一試。

We went here for lunch today after seeing the posters. It took ages to get served, the place was cramped and uncomfortable, and the prices seemed unreasonable considering the burgers looked more fast-food than gourmet - so our hopes weren't high. The veal burger was absolutely terrible - tiny, pathetic patty that tasted dried out even though we ordered it medium-rare. Absolutely smothered in a sweet kind of sauce which somehow didn't manage to sort out the dry texture. The bun was way too big an

The mushroom burger I enjoyed - very juicy and flavoursome. But absolutely extortionate price for a mushroom in a bun! The fries were strangely shrivelled and droopy - they looked like they'd spent hours simmering in the deep fat frier. I quite liked them but my partner didn't. All round we thought this place was a total rip-off: definitely won't be going here again.

Now I'm going to preface this with the fact that I may not be a big burger fan regularly but Big Fernand has definitely changed that for me. For the most part, I don't really like burgers that are too loaded with ingredients and layers and I find something that's more well thought out and on the simpler side much more attractive. Big Fernand with its very infectious personalities of its staff instantly drew me in as I casually walked past it one hungry evening after work. For the most part, I don't really like burgers that are too loaded with ingredients and layers and I find something that's more well thought out and on the simpler side much more attractive. 
Big Fernand with its very infectious personalities of its staff instantly drew me in as I casually walked past it one hungry evening after work. I was particularly hungry that night so I said why not. There were too smiles all around not to at least check it out. There are quite a few choices which I really like - and I like that they include chicken and a vegetable burger as perhaps some lighter options. I decided to go for the Big Fernand house special anyway, just to see their signature and I found myself really liking it! The beef was cooked very well and I really like that you can taste the richness of the meat. The cheese on that was just the right amount and within a short time, I realise I had gulped down the whole thing already. Usually I find patties over-seasoned with herbs or something that actually undermines the actual original taste so good on Big Fernand for keeping the original taste.
The french fries are pretty good as well and the elixir lemonade was very refreshing. There's so many combinations here to try - I definitely feel like returning several times just to make and craft my own burgers. 
Overall, a very cool, young, energetic atmosphere with solid food great for a nice chill thoughtful evening or a place to catch up with friends.

Juicy burger with delicious sauces and cheese
Their menu is pretty simple – they have a few meat options (lamb included) and a vegetarian option too; you can also build your own burger. I went for the more epic-sounding beef burger, Bartholome. The burger was super juicy and they incorporate their own sauces in there which matches the whole affair quite perfectly. The cheese is also worth mentioning; it was gourmetly delicious – none of that cheap sliced cheese nonsense! The patty is thinner than ideal, but they nevertheless still managed to cook it with a “pink” centre (for “medium”) and the meat was not dry at all.

Pricey for a self-service restaurant
Big Fernand is a casual self-service restaurant; you line up to order and pay for your burger (then wait for it too). The line was a little long (8-10 people) when I visited during lunch hours (1pm) and didn’t move too quickly either. For that reason, HK$135 for the burger alone (+HK$40 for a set with fries and a drink) is a pretty big price tag for what it is. But then again, it’s IFC and it tastes good! So… I’ll probably be back!

I'm a big fan of burger since I'm a meat lover.Saw the Big Fernand opened in ifc, a friendly place and nicely decorated which is quite convinient if you work around. The staff are dressed in such a funny way!The system is simple and efficiant: you line up to take your order and as soon as you pay, your meal is almost ready to be taken and seat in the restaurant.I have tried the Bartholeme which the guys told me it's the most famous one in France. The burger was generous but not dirty, you are quite clean when you it eat! Bacon lovers get ready, because this burger it's an amazing mix between sweet and savoury (if you dont like sweetness don't try this one) and the grestest part it is you have French and Swiss cheese! not this plastic cheedar cheese where some places are use to give to you. That's what I call quality! And the vegetables are marinated so it's new to me too!
Price point is higher than the other burger place, however you have more options that you can not have anywhere else: they asked you how do you want your meat cooked (mcdo doesnt do that!) and if you are more picky you can create your own burger ! everything with the same speed of service!
The bun was great because there is a lot of sesame and the texture is new to me. 
Since I cooked a lot, I always like to go to a burger place where I can not do myself and this one is the case! Their fries are not the skinny stereotype ones but they add a special reddish seasoning which makes them different and tasty. 
I have tried the lemonade Elixir from France, it was not too sweet and fresh.
The good news is they have a veggie burger called Lucien! I told to all my vegeterian friends because they have been very frustrated to see all the burger place opened and no one think about them, so Big Fernand you got us!
題外話/補充資料: Personalized burger it is great ! I think after going several times you can really have fun to do it!

Yesterday, I decided to discover BIG FERNAND, new restaurant of French hamburger. First things, the concept is really attractive, full of humour : all burgers are named with old French first name, staff is dressed like farmers with mustache.I tried "Le Bartholomé" : a beef burger with raclette cheese, bacon, caramelised onions and home-made sauces.It was delicious, beef was really perfectly cooked same as asked, and thanks to the raclette cheese we can understand it is real French hamburger ! On

Yesterday, I decided to discover BIG FERNAND, new restaurant of French hamburger. 

First things, the concept is really attractive, full of humour : all burgers are named with old French first name, staff is dressed like farmers with mustache.
I tried "Le Bartholomé" : a beef burger with raclette cheese, bacon, caramelised onions and home-made sauces.

It was delicious, beef was really perfectly cooked same as asked, and thanks to the raclette cheese we can understand it is real French hamburger ! 

One bad things, I was quite happy to tried traditional lemonade "the elixir of Archibald" but they were out of stock so one good reason for coming back and tried an other burger and lemonade !

My wife and I saw an advertisement for this place in the IFC and it seemed pretty exciting. We needed to have lunch out today, so we settled on this.It's called "Big Fernand: The French Burger Workshop." The menu is almost exclusively burgers, but in addition to beef burgers, there are also lamb burgers and mushroom burgers. When we got in line someone working there gave us a menu and recommended the Bartholome burger set: a beef burger w/ bacon, raclette, onions, bbq sauce, and cocktail sauce.

My wife and I saw an advertisement for this place in the IFC and it seemed pretty exciting. We needed to have lunch out today, so we settled on this.

It's called "Big Fernand: The French Burger Workshop." The menu is almost exclusively burgers, but in addition to beef burgers, there are also lamb burgers and mushroom burgers.

When we got in line someone working there gave us a menu and recommended the Bartholome burger set: a beef burger w/ bacon, raclette, onions, bbq sauce, and cocktail sauce. The set comes with fries and a drink, which are normally $40 each (which is quite steep for a can of coke, by the way).

I was not a fan of the burger. First off, the ratios are terrible. The patty is thin and small-- there's way too much bun to meat-- does 'big fernand' mean 'big bun'? Second, they are extremely heavy-handed with the sauce. I ordered mine with no bbq sauce, thinking that cocktail sauce was something like thin ketchup, but it turned out to be not all that pleasant of a sauce and lots and lots of it. There was also a fair amount of raclette-- I like raclette as a burger cheese, but one needs to be judicious, especially when the patty is so meagre. Finally, I don't think the quality of the meat is particularly good, not when relevant competitors include Beef & Liberty and Butchers Club. I only ate about half my burger.

The fries were thin shoestring ones with lots of red seasoning (paprika and onion powder?). I thought they were decent, but here's two counterpoints: one, some of mine were burnt. Two, my wife didn't like the fries. Again, if you're comparing them with, say, Butchers Club's duck fat fries, they don't particularly look very good.

Look, for a set that's $175, you better have something spectacular for me. Butchers Club does a much better burger ($100) and fries ($20) and sells cokes for cheaper ($30 vs. $40). French American Bistro does a better burger ($158) and has a nicer space and some great cocktails. There's literally no reason to go here. There's a new burger trend in HK, but that doesn't mean every burger is worthy.

Tried this new burger place in IFC mall.  Overall conclusion is that it is so so.  Beef and Liberty or even Triple O burgers taste better.The decor:  nothing spectacular.The staff:  friendly enough and were quite helpful in answering questionsThe food:  we tried the Big Fernand and the Bartholome.  The Bartholome had caramelized onion and BBQ sauce which overpowered the taste of the thin meat patty.  The Big Fernand had some cheese and chopped vegatable over a thin patty and tasted a little bett

因為同事提起午餐吃過新開的Big Fernand挺好吃的關係,即使對我來說它是比較貴的午餐選擇也決定慕名一試。這是招牌的Burger Set,盛惠$160。(包括薯條和汽水或樽裝水,可加錢配果汁)這次Burger點了medium-rare的熟度,牛肉很香很厚身,芝士都溶化得和醬汁混在一起。麵包有芝麻香味,而且麵包的闊度比餡料大,即使大口大口咬嚼,牛肉和醬汁都不會沾得油膩滿手。沒有選用生蕃茄,而是grilled,更加惹味。薯條不過不失,本以為薯條上的紅粉是香辛料,吃了才發現不辣的。整體而言是國金裡不錯的午餐選擇。當客人離座後服務員很快便過來清理枱面,裝橫挺特別和舒適。

這次Burger點了medium-rare的熟度,牛肉很香很厚身,芝士都溶化得和醬汁混在一起。麵包有芝麻香味,而且麵包的闊度比餡料大,即使大口大口咬嚼,牛肉和醬汁都不會沾得油膩滿手。沒有選用生蕃茄,而是grilled,更加惹味。薯條不過不失,本以為薯條上的紅粉是香辛料,吃了才發現不辣的。整體而言是國金裡不錯的午餐選擇。
