Was here on Sunday 15 July with the family. One could choose between a weekend brunch buffet and a limited ala carte menu. As most of us are vegetarians, and the buffet wasn't very attractive for vegetarians, everyone except my son chose the ala carte option. The meal itself was ok, nothing to rave about.
Towards the end of the meal I helped my son get some desserts from the buffet and ordered a dessert for the rest of us to share. As I was digging into the dessert we ordered separately, one of the staff approached me to ask if I was having the buffet. When told that my son was having the buffet (which he should have already known) he proceeded to ask me if what I was eating was from the buffet! The implicit allegation being that we were digging into the buffet without paying for it. I was taken aback but still politely replied that it was ordered from the ala carte menu (which again he should have known). The dessert I was having (a lemon polenta cake) wasn't even available in the buffet. He was clearly about to tell me off for eating from the buffet but having now discovered that his assumption was wrong, he beat a hasty retreat without much by way of an apology or an explanation.
This episode left a very bitter aftertaste. My wife brought this to the attention of the Maitre D' who listened patiently but didn't do anything to assuage us. Of course we left in a huff and will never go back to this particular Jamies. But it did upset me enough to decide to write my first restaurant review. Hope it helps other diners decide where to go (or not) for a relaxing meal
