Took my parents here for their 47th wedding anniversay with a group of about six diners in total. At the time they did not have their liqour license yet so we were able to bring our own bottles which was a real plus.
We ordered almost everything off the menu, including the duck, the beef, the pork, fish and everything was cooked to perfection. We especially liked the truffled vegetables, the scallops and the starters which really whet our appetites. My favourite was the steak tartare, which I rarely order but in this case really was worthwhile. The French onion soup was also very good with the caramlised onions adding a perfect sweet/savoury rtouch to the robust soup.
We had been there numerous times before for coffee (very good) and brunch with family or business contacts, and the attention to detail including the poached eggs was very pleasing.
Service was attentive and friendly, befitting the robust country fare. Service quality was a little patchy at times, perhaps due to the start up mode, however we had no complaints.
My mother and father have run a restaurant for the last thirty years and they are notoriously difficult to please. Happy to say they enjoyed themselves immensely.
The key to this restaurant I think lies in the owners being there on the ground leading the kitchen and the front of house. This is rare in Hong Kong with its over corporatised dining scene. I will enjoy coming back here.
