本身不算是墨西哥菜的fans,因為怕辣關係,總是擔心墨西哥食物會很辣。幸好這兒的食物很吸引,不算很辣,最主要在中上環區,價錢合理!今次是萬聖節當日去食墨西哥菜,由於人潮集中在蘭桂芳附近,所以現場不算多人,但反而令到侍應和顧客有更多互動,現場侍應都十分友善及主動,令到客人十分自在!今次主要點了一些小吃,他們的食物都是taco、nachos為主,taco一個都只是40、50蚊,價錢不貴,味道亦很好,但因為不算肚餓,所以只點了兩款,如果多人可以一次過品嚐不同口味!

I was blown away by their house-made tortilla chips , their chips are warm and tasty, a perfect match with guacamole. quesadilla with beef is also tasty.nacho with cheese is also very good.tacos I find them good but not as exciting as the other dishes Service was excellent, the music and atmosphere were great and get you in the mood. Service was excellent, the music and atmosphere were great and get you in the mood.

A sleep slight constructive feedback is that we were a little bit rush to leave in order to free up the table. We have 5 people. We were told there are people waiting at the bar table and the restaurant wanted us to leave so that other customers can sit where we sat.

First, we were not told how long we can dine in when we enter at around 6pm. I also don't remember seeing some rule on the time when I reserve the table. We had been at the restaurant for not even 1.5hrs.

Second, the whole downstairs are empty with prob 6-8 tables, why can't the restaurant put those customers there and instead asked us to leave. A bit puzzle to me.

Other than that, everything is great and I would recommend it.

原本都聽好多朋友話難食, 但見到有black series優惠都幾低所以就諗住去試吓。叫咗杯margarita, 杯邊個”rim of tajin” is really not my glass of cocktail。又酸又鹹好難定。去到食物,叫咗super nacho, corn, fish taco, Al pastor taco (佢哋極力推介)。Super nacho 好大份, 兩個人係完全食唔晒。點餐時 server 冇提過我哋原來份嘢咁大份…嘥咗。taco 係唔好食。唯一好食嘅係corn。無下次。

幾日前在openrice預訂了1845兩位,由於要加班,當日大約1852才跑到餐廳。店員確認訂位後,立即問我朋友何時才來,本以為必須齊人才可入座,但店員表示只能安排吧台位置,並必須於1945還枱,接着就帶我入座。邊入座邊問朋友何時才到,以及談及只有不足一小時可以用餐,由於我們希望有更輕鬆舒適的聚會環境,故決定放棄位置並離去,亦有向店員說了聲抱歉。一踏出餐廳,立即獲得了缺席訂座的通知🙃對不起呢,沒有想過blacksheep旗下的餐廳只有一小時用餐的時間😔

After having enjoyed their Black series blowout menu, I decided to come back for their spring PLATED menu “La Fiesta Del Sol” $248+10%. Unfortunately, everything (from the food to the service) was below par.


Before I get to the food, I want to address their service first. Black Sheep is known for having impeccable service but my whole evening was full of miscommunication, lack of words, and a lot of waiting. Firstly, all the food arrived on my table without explaining what dishes they are. They also arrived very very quickly, I was in the bathroom after ordering and when I got back, the chips and dips were already at my table, getting cold from the strong ventilation above my seat. Moreover, the dishes came before I finished or was even halfway through the previous ones. Also to note, they served me my tacos (main) before my tostadita (appetiser). In addition to this incoordination and lack of customer awareness, this waitress also kept forgetting table numbers and mixing up orders. It was frustrating for me to overhear this waitress asking the other staff which food goes to which table, especially in front of the guests. Also, when I asked this waitress to pack my leftover chips, she came back with a bag and I asked if these were my chips, she then had the audacity to feel through the bag and break off a chip, then saying to me “Are these chips?”. Just wow. To top it all off, I also had to wait 30 minutes (no kidding) for my bill.


I expected much better service from Black Sheep and my experience last time was also not too bad. I have no idea what happened but the quality of Black Sheep restaurants (both food and service) is starting to decline. Is it just me or does anyone feel this way? Of course, not all of their restaurants are like this but I can name a few…


Ps, my friend came for this menu a day prior and also felt the same towards the food and service. She came with her boyfriend and they were very hungry after this menu but did not want to order anything ALC as it was too expensive and they don’t think the restaurant can redeem itself.


Anyways, on to the food. I asked for a vegetarian menu as I had a few of them last time and wanted to try something new.

Salsas & Guacamole served with warm tortilla chips


I loved their chips last time since they make their own corn tortillas, the chips are still great but definitely a bit harder than last time and not as crisp, perhaps it is not freshly fried. The salsas are the tomatillo avocado salsa and pico de gallo (both also in Black Series, but without the spiciest molcajete salsa). Loved the pico de gallo but felt the tomatoes were a bit mushy. The tomatillo avocado is very spicy and great with the chips.


I also want to mention that the portion of their chips decreased a bit. Very slight but definitely noticeable, especially for someone who is very economical.

Charcoal-grilled Mexican Street Corn


Instead of the beef taquito, I asked for this to see if anything changed. Fortunately, it remains as tasty as ever and this is probably the best thing I ate all night. I would say that the ALC menu is $108 which is absurd for a cobb of corn. You can’t really taste any cheese flavour, it’s mostly just cream on sweet corn.

Three-cheese Quesadilla


This was probably the saddest dish all night. Before getting to the quesadilla, I want to discuss the sides. The knife work on the sliced radishes is horrendous. I had 4-5 big chunks of uncut strands of radishes. The radishes were also quite bitter and definitely not of the best quality. Which is ironic as they are showcasing spring produce through this menu. The pickled onions had a similar problem too. Some pieces were not separated properly, leading to a huge circle of onion. The taste is quite nice though, not too acidic but it is weirdly oily.


As for the cheese quesadilla, the three kinds of cheese they use are cheddar, Oaxaca cheese, and monterey jack. But they taste only of cheddar (not even strong cheddar) and mozzarella (aka the tasteless cheese used for texture and taste of cream). It was rather disappointing taste-wise. Texture-wise, it was very one-dimensional. Yes, you can add the vegetables for some crunch but they don’t work well together. The radish is plain and bitter; the pickled onions are oily and sour. I don’t think they use corn tortillas for these (I could be wrong) as they are tasteless and chewy, not like the grainy masa I am familiar with.

Spring Vegetable Tostadita

This is the dish that came after my tacos as they forgot to serve me it. I was told they use the seasonal spring produce for both Mexico and Hong Kong: chayote (佛手瓜), new potatoes and spring onion.


The ‘new potatoes’ are the same as normal potatoes but harvested earlier, thus they are sweeter and more tender. Here, they coated it in a spicy sauce that goes very well with the potatoes. The chayote is coated in the same sauce but has a juicy texture, this contrast is quite nice with the crispy (mini) tostada underneath. Having said that, the flavours are quite one-dimensional and it’s only spicy and crunchy. Nothing else. Was kind of hoping for a more adventurous dish.

Spicy Pumpkin Taco


As for the tacos, I chose the two off-menu vegetarian options. The pumpkin is coated in the exact same sauce as the potatoes and chayote in the tostadita, this meant the flavour profiles were identical and textures are extremely similar too. The pumpkin could have been cooked longer as it was still crunchy and not that creamy. Because of the large size of the pumpkin, it was quite hard and messy to eat. Other than that, the flavours are nice with the spice but just very average.

Avocado Taco


This taco features a perfectly ripe avocado that is creamy and tastes great with the spicy salsas. The avocado went well with the corny tortilla too and kinda enhances the taste of corn, whereas the taste is completely covered in the pumpkin taco.

💬 Overall, this visit is drastically worse than last time and I don’t think I will return. It also enlightened me about Black Sheep’s true colours and how they do not prioritise quality and service over profits. Maybe it was just a bad day but I’ve heard from others that their other restaurants are also increasing their price but quality is sub-par.

好久没光顾黑羊的餐厅了,食物还是喜欢的。牛肉Taco现场淋上浓稠的肉汁,蒙上一层朦胧魅惑的光芒,牛肉部位选得好,细嫩柔韧无渣,有两块还软糯带筋,莎莎酱点到为止,肉香澎湃。

炸虾Taco外酥里嫩,跟经典炸鱼Taco是异曲同工之妙,薄薄的脆皮紧缩汁水,还要惊喜的是甜辣蛋黄酱与酸甜烤菠萝莎莎的组合,调味清新有趣。酱汁比较多,每个Taco都用了两层玉米小圆饼托住,嚼劲介于11 Westside和Te Mucho之间,也是不错的。

佢地都係tequila base既酒,兩款都係比較tropical既cocktails. Cartarito就係比El Caracata多啲其他果汁。飲落都唔錯~

整體係好食,mood都唔錯,不過性價比低,稍貴。另外,限時1小時15分鍾,但我地座左兩個鍾,餐廳唔full 都唔會迫你走~座位唔多,鬼佬幫襯估多呢!

Thanks to their Black Series I finally found the time and budget for me to try this highly anticipated Mexican restaurant. After going to 11 Westside last week, I was slightly disappointed in the Mexican food scene of HK (especially if that was the highest standard) so I was very excited to get to try all the things they are known for in a pre-designed menu with a great price.


The restaurant itself is quite large with a second floor downstairs where the kitchen is as well as more seats. The first floor is where the bar is. The bathroom also gives Mexico-vibes as it is outside the restaurant (has a roof) in a shed.


Because of the Black Series menu, all of their restaurants are fully booked and you only have the dining time of 90 minutes to allow for the next round of guests. I found this to be quite harsh as I booked for 6, but the food arrived at 6:30, thus I was quite rushed throughout my meal and they served the dishes quite fast. Which is normal for a taqueria but also meant each dish could not be enjoyed fresh and hot.


This menu included 3 starters and 2 tacos at $248 per person. The options for tacos are quite limited (their a la carte menu is also shorter than 11 westside) but they do offer vegetarian options if you ask.

Horchata $58


I started my night with this non-alcoholic drink. I normally don’t drink beverages outside but the bartender recommended it and said it would be good with the spicy dishes and he was most certainly correct.


I’ve had horchata before and this is definitely a good one. By using full-cream milk, it is oh-so-creamy and milky, resulting in the dairy-like sweetness we get from lactose but not the saccharine sweetness of sucrose. They also use oat milk to give it extra maltose and the result is this caramel-like, wheat-like aroma and taste that’s perfect with the cinnamon. Traditional horchata uses rice but I think they replaced it with the oat to make it maltier.


Speaking of the cinnamon, it is not as strong as I thought (the milk is stronger) but offers a mild hint of exoticness and helps to balance the sweetness and fattiness of this drink.


The temperature of this drink is also really important, having it cold is exactly like having a glass of cold milk after eating something spicy and let’s just say this was exactly what I needed after a few bites of the very spicy tostada.


The portion for the price is very reasonable as it lasted the whole meal.

Salsas & Guacamole served with warm tortilla chips


Of course, this Mexican feast started with chips and guacamole. Their tortilla chips are freshly made in their kitchen from corn flour and after frying, the aroma of maize is super strong, savoury, and delicious. It is also perfectly seasoned with salt; thus, you can eat it plain and enjoy the strong taste of corn.


Their guacamole is quite strange as there are big segments of avocado in this dip, which is good as you can taste the raw creamy and nuttiness of the avocado but also makes it quite cumbersome as a dip. The guacamole is also less seasoned and has fewer fixins (red onions, tomatoes) than 11 Westside, which means the avocado’s real taste is emphasized.


As for their salsas, there is a pico de gallo and an avocado tomatillo. The pico de gallo is very fresh and juicy, great with the creamy guacamole. I also enjoyed eating this in between bites by itself as it is a great palate cleanser and not spicy at all. The avocado tomatillo sounded strange to me as I thought it would be a spicy avocado puree but no, it resembled a lot of traditional salsa with it’s intense spice and viscosity. The only difference is that there is a mild creaminess and nuttiness from the avocado that went well with the fried chips.


The portion of everything is definitely meant for 2 people so I guess coming here alone is a lot more worth it. I was able to munch on the chips throughout my meal and even took some for the trip home (I was so full by the end but the smell of the corn tempted me and I ate the rest at home so it wouldn’t get stale). The guacamole though was not enough for all the chips and perhaps they only give half an avocado whereas 11 Westside gives a full avocado.

Charcoal-grilled Mexican Street Corn


The next starter is their corn. This corn is supposed grilled on charcoal but I can’t really detect any of the smokiness that comes from it. The corn itself is so sweet and juicy, they also use Anejo cheese instead of cotija cheese, both an aged Mexican cheese but cotija can be described as saltier and drier. Nonetheless, the cheese was very creamy which is amazing against the juicy corn. Unlike 11 Westside, they don’t use mayonnaise and you can actually taste the cheese. This dish also has a slight spice to it from the chilli which made the corn less sweet and more balanced.


I highly recommend squeezing lime on top to awaken the spice, sweetness and aroma of this dish.


I also found that this corn is so good with the tortilla chips. The creamy sweet and juicy corn with the crunchy and salty chips is a match made in heaven. Also, they are both derived from corn as of course they belong together.

Grilled Tostada


I asked for the vegetarian option which uses eggplant instead of chicken. The eggplant itself is tender and meaty with a very strong spice rub on it. There is also guacamole, creme, carrots and chilli in this dish which all worked together so well. The big chunks of eggplant are so flavourful and this dish might be my favourite of the night due to the variety of tastes and textures: creamy and nutty avocado; silky and spicy eggplant; mild and milky crema; crunchy and sweet carrots; and spicy and sharp chilli, all on top of a crunchy fried tortilla smeared with refried beans to give you the most diverse and delicious mouthful.


Moreover, the portion size is defiantly meant for two people (I saw the same portions of my food being sent to tables of 2) so again, eating by myself was the most financially correct choice. The portion is also not small at all, it is a mountain of big chunks of eggplant on generous scoops of guacamole on a big piece of fried tortilla. This dish stayed with me for the whole night.

Market Ceviche


The market fish they are using is hamachi, yellowtail/amberjack which is very commonly seen in HK now and it is also the chosen ceviche in 11 Westside. However, the sauce and technique are drastically different and very intriguing.


Firstly, the fish is cured with Maggi. Something foreign to Mexico but used here to appeal to the Asian demographic and to use an interesting and unique ingredient. The result is a savoury and salty taste that some people may find too intense and heavy but is actually not bad as the fish itself is quite oily and fatty.


They also feature the winter produce of pumpkins in the form of pumpkin puree and toasted pumpkin seeds. The pumpkin didn’t really shine in this dish but I guess its role as a background supporter is more important as it provides a mild, creamy and sweet ending to each bite. The crunchy pumpkin seeds though were very good and offset the tender fish.

Tacos


For my tacos, I chose the fish and shrimp one. Both are ‘Baja-style’ which essentially means deep fried. Before I talk about the toppings, let’s talk about their tortilla. They made it fresh from the corn dough before service but they do cook it as well so each tortilla is made in-house but not made to order. Which is already very good considering the number of bookings and patrons they have. However, the taste of corn is less prominent in the soft tortilla than it is in the fried tortilla chips which are quite puzzling. The thickness of the tortilla is perfect for my taste as it is not too thick that the ratio is disrupted but enough to hold and carry the toppings. However, they do provide 2 pieces of tortilla per taco which is to ensure all the toppings are supported but you can just eat the bottom one as is to taste the raw tortilla or you can use it as a vessel for the toppings that fall out or for other dishes. I specifically enjoyed eating my leftover tortilla with the corn from before and even the extra eggplant from the tostada.


I also had the fish and shrimp taco from 11 Westside so I am able to make side by side comparison.


Crispy Fish Taco

The fish is fried well, not greasy or oily. The batter is also well seasoned which is important as the fish itself didn’t have much flavour. The batter is also not too thick but could definitely be thinner. The fish though is very flaky and moist but I think a bigger portion is needed for the tortilla. The salsa wasn’t very spicy and I needed up adding the pico de gallo and avocado tomatillo for some refreshment and spice. The creme went well with the fish but wished there were more.



Baja-style shrimp

This shrimp was quite disappointing as the meat itself is tiny and the batter is not only extremely thick (in ratio to the shrimp and tortilla) but also fell off the shrimp the moment I cut into it. Fortunately, the batter is well seasoned but eating it with the tortilla was way too doughy. The chipotle mayo is creamy with a very mild spice, good with the shrimp. I prefer the mango salsa at 11 Westside but this was good and went with the shrimp too. Avocado is nice and creamy and altogether it is not a bad taco.


Taco-wise, it is definitely better than 11 Westside but still not great. I think I should have gotten the grilled avocado taco instead as their avocados are truly great.

💬 Overall, a very delicious and filling Mexican meal at the best possible price. I don’t know if I want to return for a la carte as it is quite expensive so I might just wait for the next Black Series. I do think TSM is better than 11 Westside but the latter has more options and is better for large group gatherings due to the space.
I can’t wait to explore more Mexican restaurants in HK.

I’m Mexican, so I know how a taco must taste like and this Taqueria is the closest I have found to authentic Mexican tacos and overall cuisine in all of Hong Kong. The menu is short but enough to try Mexican gastronomy. Recommend to try all the tacos (1 of each) with a Corona beer. The food can be a little spicy for those not used to spicy food. But is a tasteful spicy, not difficult to eat. I have visited 3 times already and never disappointed

Really feeling the beach party vibes of Baja Mexico at Taqueria super macho!Their tacos were phenomenal! 一向是一個Taco愛酷者,打從以前在美國生活已喜歡食taco。回港初期連一間Taco店也找不到,這10年才陸續出現,但味道都普通。今次這間是朋友介紹的,由booking開始都頗有禮貌,到後發覺裝修簡約得來好有特色,餐牌非常簡單只供應Taco 沒有其他墨西哥食品如Burritos, Fajitas都沒有,有點可惜。我們選了四種不同口味的Taco。分別是牛肉、豬肉、軟殼蟹及魚肉,其實配料完全一樣只是主要食肉味道不同。識得一試的是牛肉及軟殼蟹,層次感較強及味道較為突出。同時他們的飲品也值得一讚,我選了Margarita味道不錯👍🏻。其後和侍應言談了一會他很健談,還贈送我們一杯Tequila shot.總結他們的Taco是不錯的,氣氛也很好,飲品也值得叫的。如果可以提供牛油果醬而不需要加錢會加分。
