從前,我對太古的認識,只有太古方糖同太古城。後來,多了太古坊的出現,令本是船塢及工業區的鰂魚涌變成了一個時尚的新商業中心。亦因為這樣,太古坊內同周邊的舊區,出現了非一般的生氣。 從前的我們,絕對不會為了食飯而來到鰂魚涌,但今時今日,午間的鰂魚涌,除了是太古坊工作人士之福之外,在北角工作的大眾,也會搭幾個站的 "叮叮" 來到這一頭,享用一些較高質素的午餐。 這一天,因為要找朋友幫忙辦點事,在該區工作的朋友就說在《The News Room Diner》訂了檯,我們邊談事,邊品味一頓美國式的午餐。 餐廳的設計是十分傳統的,但牆上的圖畫好似是一個大師級的作品。不過,讓我想起的,是一隻老牌字檸檬糖。是什麼牌子? 大家記唔記得,有一隻一吃酸都標眼淚,但越食會越會的奇怪糖果 "Super Lemon"呢。 餐單,其實是很正常不過的美國餐。而當中有好幾個好有趣的 Combo 套餐,全是以國際級老牌紅星來命名,看起來好特別,但是,看一看內容,其實也就是普普通通的美式肉食餐。只不過用上了明星,標奇立異而已。 我點的套餐是 "The James Dean" (占士甸)。人物我不介紹了,只說食物。套餐我選擇了湯,是一個很濃的忌廉湯,很 creamy、很 thick,是正宗美國人的口味。 James Dean 餐的主食,是一個 Original Burger,說真,這的確是一個好 original 的 burger。沒有芝士,卻有沙律醬,而且是千島醬。牛肉是手打的,入口香而且有軟綿綿的口感,配上千島醬而非芝士,味道更香口,入口更惹味。 朋友吃的是熱狗,名字叫 Perrito Loco,香腸上,有味道可愛的 coleslaw,有炸薯仔絲,酸酸香香的味道,香脆可口的口感,配上皮帶脆的香腸同可愛的麵包,簡單美妙的快樂感,可由此熱狗帶給大家。 而我的 James Dean 套餐,仲有一份薯條的。薯條,是原隻薯仔切出的,入口份外的香,不用點茄汁也十分之美味。 很好很美式的食品,當然,這《The News Room Diner》也是一間很不錯的餐廳。來一個 happy lunch time,happy dinner,在港島東區生活或工作的你,值得多來。

The News Room is always one of the best places to have a business lunch with clients. I went for their no-brainer business lunch set today. Salad/SoupIn their lunch set, you may choose between salad and soup and I went for their salad, while their soup was tomato cream soup on that day. All greens are fresh and crispy and the dressing was just enough which was also not too sour, sweet, or savoury. Fish PlatterAmong all other chicken, beef options, I chose the fish one which was a mix of grilled fish including salmon, tuna, prawn, with some broccoli, caulifower on the side. The flavour was good however the fillets were a bit dry. Compared to the chicken and steak lunch, I would probably not going to pick this fish main course again. Chocolate Mousse CakeThe very dense cake has been prepared prior and brought to us after we finished our main. The cake was bittersweet using semi-dark chocolate. A great treat during a long business lunch time!

星期六晚想搵地方飲杯嘢,周圍都好多人,有朋友提議去鰂魚涌太古坊,假日果然好少人。夜晚九點前都仲有 happy hour! 星期六喎!啤酒只不過係$4x,又冇逼你要花生,係幾抵飲,環境好靜,方便傾計,講嘢唔使同啲人聲,音樂聲鬥大聲,但另一方面就冇酒吧啲好chill 嘅感覺,所以睇你想要咩環境啦。

Growing up, I used to think of a chicken sandwich as a joyless meal. That was until I'd met far superior versions of the classic sandwich at such places such as Fuku in NYC, Sylvain in New Orleans, or Hot Star Fried Chicken in HK/TW. Heck, even chain sandwiches, Nando's, Chik-fil-a, Bojangles, etc make a darn good chicken sandwich.The version at the News Room Diner reminded me of why I hated the dish as a child. Desiccate, flavorless, breast meat chicken on greasy toast with a perfunctorily limp piece of lettuce is about as unaccomplished as one could get away with, especially at $105.Beyond the chicken, the daily soup (vegetable) tasted canned, the side salad had all the life of a pensioner, and the service was spotty (one fellow diner's dish came nearly 15 minutes after everyone else's). At least the chips were nice - hot, crispy and well seasoned.If the News Room Diner is out to replicate soulless, race-to-the-bottom American staples, well then; News flash: They've done a fine job of it.

I went there for lunch with friends and the chicken burger was awful for the price! it was tasteless and felt like I was eating at a fast food restaurant. The rest of the side dishes were so ordinary tasting. all my friends thought it was horrible and we left to get dessert elsewhere.
