Another petite café has just landed in Wanchai. This Mansons Lot is located in Swatow Street, a deadend alley which limits frequent traffic in front of the shop. If weather permits, you can relax yourself on the chairs set in front of the café.
With coffee beans sourced from Di Gabriel, a well known Sydney based boutique coffee roaster, Mansons Lot currently focuses in serving espresso based coffee. Both the house blend and single origin shots were pleasing and with outstanding characters. Besides coffee, they also offer home made pastry such as carrot cake, apple crumble, etc. that are sold out quickly. From the chocolate cake that I tried, both coffee and sweets are with high standard.a) Long Black – House Blend Monte Carlo and Single Origin from Rwanda ($36@) – 8/10
The house blend was with strong notes of chocolate and berry with a round finishing.For the beans from Rwanda was with more citric note and yet palate pleasing with mild acidity.
b) Cappuccino (breakfast set) – 8.5/10
The milk foam of this cappuccino was foamy, smooth and made at the right temperature. The espresso base was rich and strong enough to distinct itself in the drink.c) Raspberry Chocolate Cake ($42) – 8.5/10
This no-bake cake was rich in cocoa and with a crispy chocolate base. The raspberry gave a good balance with the sweetness of the chocolate.d) Scrambled Egg with Bread ($46 for breakfast set) – 7.5/10
The scrambled egg was prepared nicely with creamy and nearly fluffy texture. Besides having jam, peanut butter or honey with butter for the bread, the café aligns with the Aussie culture and serves Vegemite if it’s your liking.06.2013
