I had been searching online for upscale Japanese Omakase (see my review of Sakana) and this one popped up. 2 of my friends live in Whampoa so we decided to try it. We decided to go for the lunch menu which starts at $300/set. Firstly, the waitress was quite rude. The restaurant was practically empty but when we called to book the table, they said we could either have a table at 12 or 1:30, which is strange considering there were hardly any people. In addition, they said it closed at 3pm which was tight (considering our meals arrived at about 2:40pm). We all had recently had sushi so we decided to order the cooked food sets. The waitress was displeased by this and tried to push us to order the expensive sushi sets. She further emphasised that the hot food sets were mainly for "children" and we would have to wait 40-50 minutes for the food which we found very odd. We were not discouraged by the waitress and said we had time. So we waited...and waited and waited. For almost one hour! My friend's grilled cod fish came first--it was a generous sized piece of fish and tasted pretty good. We asked if we could have our soups because we were starving and the waitress said no, they would come out together. Finally, our tempura sets arrived after almost one hour. It was shocking. the coating was heavy and greasy and the shrimp was tough and veiny inside. The paper underneath the tempura was very oily. I asked the waitress about the shrimp and whether it was frozen shrimp and she said "of course for tempura one uses frozen shrimp!" as if I were crazy to ask. But even so, the texture was so hard and unappetising and I have had better tempura in a food court. The worst part was that it was $350 per set--and didn't even include a salad or pickles! We did get an overly salted steam egg custard as an appetiser though. It was on the level of an ordinary restaurant. All in all, quite a depressing experience, especially for our wallets. Perhaps the sushi is really good here, hence all the good reviews. But the service and quality of such an upscale restaurant are simply unacceptable. Even fast food chains have more polite service. When we left the restaurant, they didn't even say goodbye or thank you which is typical of an upscale Japanese restaurant.
題外話/補充資料: Stay away from the tempura.
