Grand Hyatt Steakhouse was always on my wish list upon its opening some 2 years ago, just that its popularity deterred me from visiting till last week.

This is a classical steakhouse serving traditional grill and seafood. The price for the food is reasonable given the environment, quality and services, especially when you don’t drink wine. Service is on the par of 5-star hotel and some of the staff are very knowledgeable both in food and wine.

I had two rounds of that garlic toasts, one at the beginning and the other for the soup. Each piece was evenly toasted and spread with garlic butter to give a golden brown crispy texture. Could eat more but had to make room for the other food.

Large chunks of crab meat were used for the patty. The meat was fresh and tender after seared at the outside. Well seasoned with herbs and I didn’t touch the sauce rémoulade by the side.

Still a decent portion for sharing of this bisque between two persons, each with a piece lobster and a dollop of sour cream. The scent of cognac was moderate, rich and intense flavour.

The steakhouse is famous for her dry aged beef and I was struggling among a few of the choices such as the tenderloin, rib eye or the one we finally picked – strip loin. For a share of two, we picked the larger portion of 12oz which was quite enough to leave room for dessert. At a request for medium rare, the meat was grilled to its perfection with uniform pink when cut across. Although the loin was with not much marble fat in between, the meat was tender and yet with a chew. I loved the smoky flavour from the over flame broiled too.

Both the description and price set me a high expectation on this dish. Yes, the duck fat smelled good but the fries lacked of crispiness from the thrice frying if they really were made that way. A range of 6 types of mustard were available and grainy with cognac was my favourite.

As recommended by the wait staff, we ordered the most popular dessert. With no pastry base, there were not many crusts either. Dusted with pistachios on the top didn’t highlight the dish. House made vanilla soft ice cream was used while I prefer regular ice cream as the temperature contrast of the latter with the apple crumble would be larger. And no vanilla seeds were found in the soft serve.
