This is an expensive chocolate bar.M and J wanted chocolate lava cake, so I brought them here. I have been looking forward to this. Before, Chocoholic was Chocolux. They're both chocolate bars, and they serve roughly the same items, which is good news for me! The doorway is a bit narrow so it might be difficult to find. Service:
The staff were very friendly, and took things easy. English-speaking. I believe they are the ones who prepared the desserts as well! For that they ought to be commended.
Food:
First up, on the menu:
Chocolate Volcano (that's what it's called) $53 + $10 for ice cream scoop
It didn't look very appealing. The shell was kind of flaked and had crevices (like a real volcano i suppose?!). Eating it was divine though. It was hot - and firm, not too moist. It tastes extremely chocolatey but isn't too sweet. As you can see from the photo there is a free flow of lava from the volcano yummy lava too! Again, not sickeningly sweet, and still quite hot. The Vanilla ice creamwas much better than Sweeties' Desserts, this one being extremely creamy and fragrant. Eating all 3 bits together is again, delightful. The merits of this volcano over others include it being much more solid and substantial than others, which might have more cocoa powder and flour than real chocolate. In fact you need just a little bit of flour, more good quality chocolate, sugar and eggs. We finished this in record time as everyone was fighting to get more of the goodness. But we still maintained our civil and polite attitude towards one another bwahahaha. Strong coffee flavour and a bit alcoholic as you can see. Kahlua/Tia maria + vanilla ice cream = Bailey's! The coffee flavour came through very strong but some of us didn't like it. Bailey might have worked better because it's less choking. Didn't know what the chocolate beans were there for though - not a lot of value added. Next time I wouldn't order this because I can make it at home. Oh i almost forgot - there was some sort of uber-sweet macaroon base which I didn't like, because it was too sweet. The texture was nice though. Even better if Chocoholic would toast some waffles and then stick them into the ice cream, or serve it on the side to cut the sweetness of the ice cream. THAT would've been delicious. I wouldn't order this next time - it wasn't worth $63!After 5 minutes, our table looked like this:
Sweetness filled to the brim. Ahhhhh.Conclusion:
Will come back next time for the Volcano cake, and the hot chocolate drinks. If they're as good as the ones at Chocolux then they're definitely worth a try!
