Dim Sum Express is one of those places that do dim sum all day long. This place, however, has a bilingual menu and charges a bit more than the other places for their gimmicky black truffle rice rolls and abalone puff tarts.Boyfriend and I came here when it first opened and we thought it was ok and we tried all the gimmick food. When it opened it was busy and we had come at night on a weekend. This time we found a Beecrazy deal where for $98 for one, we could choose a total of four dim sum. Since
Boyfriend and I came here when it first opened and we thought it was ok and we tried all the gimmick food. When it opened it was busy and we had come at night on a weekend. This time we found a Beecrazy deal where for $98 for one, we could choose a total of four dim sum. Since, I bought two, we could choose eight. There was an additional $8 for tea charge. And an added $10 for weekends and public holidays. Now, here's the sketchy bit. Every time I tried to reserve a table on a weekday, they would say they had a table but when I said I was bringing a group deal, they would say it was fully booked all day long. But they would offer a table on a weekend. So here we paid an extra $10 for eating on the weekend. And when we arrived, the place was not full on a weekend night. Plus, all the customers were here due to the Beecrazy deal.
Since we ordered the gimmick food last time, we tried the regular dim sum this time.
Steamed rice with chicken and mushrooms was actually one mushroom. Rice was fragrant with chicken oil. Chicken was moist. Boyfriend took all the soy sauce and didn't leave me with any but I still felt it had flavor.
I didn't like the black sesame balls. The dough was too thick so it absorbed all the oil. The black sesame filling was so sweet, it only tasted like sugar.
Beef rice roll wasn't very good. The rice roll was too thick. There was hardly any filling.
Bean curd roll in milk tasted exactly that. Bean curd in milk. It was very bland but I guess a life saver after eating the super sweet black sesame balls.
Cheese and shrimp egg rolls were awesome! Lots of cheese that it was pretty salty. Shrimp sweetness to balance it out. And yeah...fried roll.
Steamed vegetable dumplings weren't very good. The wrap was too thick and it was sat soggy in its steam.
BBQ pork buns were not that great. The filling was yummy but the bun still tasted doughy like it wasn't done.
Shrimp dumplings weren't great but as expected from places like this. The wrapping was way to thick.
Majority of the dishes were chipped, including the toothpick holder! Quality of food has definitely gone down since it first opened. Perhaps explaining why it was so empty on a Saturday night.
