I went with a friend- we each ordered 1/4 of a chicken. She had the breast/wing end, while I had the leg. I really appreciated the crispy skin and the tenderness of the chicken. The quality of the chicken really showed in how you could see the really dark parts of the meat, and its flavour of course. We also ordered roast potatoes as a side- there have been some reviews saying they're really good but our potatoes must have been old because they had that soggy/chewy texture of roasted potatoes th
We also ordered roast potatoes as a side- there have been some reviews saying they're really good but our potatoes must have been old because they had that soggy/chewy texture of roasted potatoes that passed their prime. The flavour itself was good, but I wish they took more care of the freshness of all the food they're serving, even if chicken is their main focus.
Lastly, the dessert: The chocolate cake looked good but we ordered the apple tart, since good chocolate cake is so common. HUGE MISTAKE! Don't ever order any of their tarts! The crust was soggy and flavourless, and their custard was starchy and stone cold even though we asked for it to be heated. They told us they would heat it and handed it to us 2 minutes later, and not one corner of the tart slice was remotely warm.... the apple, too, had no tartness or flavour... just this weird mild sickly sweetness that didn't really taste of anything.
It's really disappointing that the meal started out on a high note and then just went downhill from there... I guess the fact that they put in the effort to seek out good-quality chickens got me to expect higher standards from them on every aspect of their food. Evidently that's not the case- I'm either only going to stick to their chickens or go back to Chicken On the Run in Soho, unless something changes.
