Summary: Terrific pizza at sizable, but better than Kytaly, prices. This very well might be the best neapolitan pizza in town, and depending on how much you appreciate this style, it might be worth the price. Terrific outdoor terrace seating and wonderful ambiance elevate the pizza experience , but i'd recommend the great lunch set (168++), instead of the maddening a la carte. If you're a pizza lover, this is the place.Babacio is basically the same restaurant (management and kitchen) as its pred
Babacio is basically the same restaurant (management and kitchen) as its predecessor Kytaly, but has cut its association with the Swiss restaurant. To me, that's a great sign, as everything about Kytaly rubbed me the wrong way; from its "best pizza in the world" billing (it did win some competition) to its infamous menu where the average pizza was over $250. The pizza was pretty good but come on....
Anyway, Babacio is a retooled, if essentially identical, update of Kytaly. The very accommodating host explained they were still in a soft opening phase so the menu is pretty much to-be-decided, but here are the current versions:
Lunch Menu
A la Carte - if you remember Kytaly, most of their pizzas were over HKD 250 each, so a noticeable improvement in prices
I had the very reasonable lunch set (note its the same price as the a la carte pizzas and includes a salad and a coffee/dessert). I tried the Piccante pizza, and it was terrific. The salad and coffee were fine and are not pictured.
Overall, if you like real pizza, and don't mind HK prices for it, this is one of your best choices right now in the city. That it has an open terrace makes it even better for what we are living through in Spring 2020. I love that they've ditched the Kytaly pretentiousness (and prices), and gone more for quality and value, though still of course at HK Central prices. Try it for lunch if you're on the fence!
