Reason for visiting:I haven't spent much time with my grandma lately so when she suggested to have breakfast together I wanted to choose a place nearby that would offer a better breakfast than McD. Decor & Hygiene:
There is indoor and outdoor seatings. Inside, there were pictures of people, whom I feel were probably involved with the restaurant hanging on the wall. I thought it was interesting that "One Stop"was written so largely inside the restaurant. I guess it is so that you won't forget where you are dinning while you're dinning. Although the environment was okay and I didn't notice any issues with hygiene, I didn't find the place overly comfortable.
Taste & Value:Besides me and my grandma, my sister and aunt came as well. There were about 6 breakfast options and the 4 of us all chose something different. All sets came with a drink and a small bowl of fruit for $35. Packaged sugar stays on the table so that it's there if you need it for your drinks.
What we got:Me: Smoked salmon on an onion cake- The smoked salmon was okay, nothing too special. The first few bites of the onion cake was a bit weird. It had a raw taste, but then that taste disappeared so maybe some parts of the cake were cooked better than other parts. It was soso overall but the chickpea stew on the side was rich and pretty good, although it was probably just made with canned tomatoes and canned chickpeas. The salad was surprisingly my favourite because it had a nice dressing.
My sister: Egg Benedict- This order came with one egg benedict. Instead of the usual hollandaise sauce, my sister said cheese was used. From the looks, the egg looked hard but it was actually runny, so it was all good. My sister gave me a bite and I thought the egg was pretty good, but the ham was plain. This also came with a salad and chickpeas.
My aunt: Veal & pasta in a tomato broth- This came with a basket of toasted strips of bread that looked really delicious. This pasta dish looked like a Chinese breakfast item to me with an Italian touch because of the veal and tomato sauce. I didn't get to try this dish because my aunt didn't offer and I didn't want to ask. My aunt thought that the broth was not bad, but the dish was just average.
My grandma: Pancakes with Jam- I think this was the best out of the 3 that I tried. Unlike most people, I like crunchy pancakes so I don't usually order pancakes when I'm out because they are always soft! My grandma gave me half a piece to try, and believe it or not, I actually liked them. Although they were soft, they were flavourful enough even without adding the condiments on the side! That says a lot about the batter. My grandma wanted syrup, but we were told that they didn't have any, so they gave us honey instead that worked just as well for my grandma.
Service:The staff didn't seem too engaging. However, it was nice that even though they didn't have any syrup, they tried their best and offered us honey, which was similar.
Final Verdict:
The portions weren't overly big, but I guess it was only $35. It was a good deal I think, but since I didn't find my dish all that great, I will probably walk by without stopping next time.
