Tucked away on the fourth and highest floor of the Cyberport Shopping Centre, in a discrete corner of the 'Food Court', is a somewhat non-discrept restaurant with a rather open format: Zeta Teppanyaki. Now, before you rush out there and make bookings or arrive hastily at the building, be aware, that this is NOT a traditional teppanyaki or hibachi style japanese restaurant. Yes, it has three open grills that are used to cook food in realtime, before the very eyes of the patrons; yes, they cook them well, and these well prepared dishes are delicious; and yes, the service is set up typically like a bar style eatery. That said though, there ARE tables there as well although during our two hour plus dinner, no one sat at any, nor were they lit in a welcoming manner that entices patrons to use them.
The set menu that we as a couple bought, being our engagement anniversary, was the Lobster and Steak Menu at the cost of HKD780 + tax. The total for the meal which included a lovely live lobster cooked in front of you, to which the shell were used to flavor a delightful miso soup, two LARGE scallops (largest we've seen ever!), a delectable rib-eye steak, fried vegetables and fried rice, and a chilled serving of rice wine (sake) for two, seemed more than reasonable.
The service was prompt, where staff spoke English competently, and polite and mannerly. The cook/chef was mindful to ask what our likes were with the preparation of the meat and the seafood. At the end of our meal, we were served with lovely mango mochis which were nicely chilled and individually wrapped!
Overall, I think that this little restaurant impresses by not having to try too hard. It has a laid back ambience; its not rushed nor is it congested, and the staff put a good effort into making your meal as well as it can be. Price-wise, I guess most can say that its rather pricey, and it probably is given that the method of preparation of food gets a little boring after your third course since its all cooked on the open grill in front of you, as you sit relaxedly looking on.
Located rather ineptly on the fourth floor and away from the hustle bustle of Food Court rush (especially over lunch), it is rather unassuming and can be easily mistaken as one of the more generic foodstalls there.
Parking is across the street over the International Park N Shop supermarket, and although in a separate building, belongs to the same complex all the same. Parking fee is claimable up to a six hour rebate by producing a docket in excess of HKD300 in one receipt from any of the shops in the complex!
If you're hoping to spend less, there are single set menus as well as an la carte all of which are prepared over the grill teppanyaki style, but without the flare and showmanship of knife, shaker or scraper twirls and tosses.
Bon appetit!!
