hygiene is a real concern during these pandemic times, and when you are sat at your prepared table with sauce stains and a used spoon on the floor, you realise that this is branch is really just a Cha Chan Teng in disguise. let's start with the food. One does not come to genki for the fine taste of the sea through delicate flavours put together like Monet's brushwork on the plate. You come to genki, like you would go to KFC, to get down and dirty. However my experience here really tested the lower bound of my tolerance to raw fish splatted on balls of rice. To my wife's surprise I had leftovers, this Brit took up the practice of spitting out inedibles, but this time it was the whole peice of tuna on top of a tuna sushi. salmon was a bit slimy, poorly sliced, and some pieces were too cold with icicles inside. Our bravery led us to order some beef sushi, which was average but drenched in grease. there was on saving grace and that was the kara-age, the Japanese fried chicken pieces. A hot crunchy batter with succulent chicken thigh cut into bite sized pieces. Nice as that is, I questioned myself if 450bucks was worth paying for a good fried chicken and a fishy breath? maybe a jollibee would have done. thank God covid hasn't ended our choices.now the service, we were told that we had on our plate of assorted sushi, something we had not ordered and was kindly asked to pay for it if we were to eat it. Although we had to continuously correct our poor waitress on our orders, she was apologetic, and it seems like she was used to this. The cha chan teng service comes with the hygiene outlook! what a package..if only the bill was also cha chan teng, it would have been a perfect experience.
