Came here last month and can now write about it because it's finally listed on OpenRice! This place is an interesting find.Located inside Yata department store inside their grocery store section at the take away sushi counter is a section that serves grilled seafood and sushi don sets for a pretty cheap price. And from the crowds of people waiting for a seat, it's pretty well known in Tsuen Wan as I went on a weekday. Getting a seat is next to insane. You basically stand behind someone you think
Located inside Yata department store inside their grocery store section at the take away sushi counter is a section that serves grilled seafood and sushi don sets for a pretty cheap price. And from the crowds of people waiting for a seat, it's pretty well known in Tsuen Wan as I went on a weekday. Getting a seat is next to insane. You basically stand behind someone you think looks about done. When they get up to leave, you grab their spot and order and pay at the cashier. No one helps you find a seat but someone quickly comes out to clean up after you go. Menu all in Chinese but staff speaks ok English to explain as best they can or just point.
We noticed some people eating sushi dons that looked really fresh. But we wanted grilled fish and ordered a two people set for $238. It included one makeral, one white fish, one lobster and two prawns. All sets came with miso soup and rice.
Miso soup came as soon as we sat down. I was expecting watered down miso as seen in many fast food court style Japanese places but this wasn't! It had salmon meat, daikon and carrots inside. It was a pretty big bowl as well.
Rice was actual Japanese rice and seasoned with sesame seeds. It was also a huge bowl.
Grilled prawns were pretty good. Meat was moist and lightly seasoned.
Grilled white fish was quite good. It was seasoned with a yuzi salt. Fish was moist.
Cheese grilled lobster is exactly what one would expect from a food court experience as they use frozen lobster and grill it. It was dried out and bland. Lots of cheese is a plus.
Grilled makeral came with a slice of tamagoyaki. Makeral was nicely grilled and not fishy as usually makeral is. The tamagoyaki was soft and sweet.
All this for $238 for two people is quite a deal. Quality was surprisingly good for food court styles. Service is nonexistant but really, you're at a food court so can't really complain.
Their take away sushi looked pretty fresh. Some came in Japanese department store bento styles.
I would return if in the area, but I don't live nearby. Thus, they gave me a stamp card to collect stamps for a discount later and I ended up giving it away to a coworker who lived in Tsuen Wan.
