Aussies are known to relaxed, no wuckers and a "take it easy" attitude. This is mostly true, but when it comes to coffee, we're as fussy as a Frenchmen in search of a good baguette. With the scene set, I present to you 18 Grams, the best coffee in Mong Kok and probably Kowloon.
Food: Quality is excellent. Generous serving size for the Aussie breakfast. Scrambled eggs are well executed and is on par with good cafes found in Sydney. Egg benedict is also done well. Eggs are runny and with just enough hollandaise sauce to not overpower the taste of the eggs and ham. Fresh salad on the side is also a great touch.
Drinks: Best Flat White this side of the harbour. Good strong flavour, the right ratio of milk to coffee to differentiate it from a latte. More work needs to be done on the milk to heat and froth (but not scald) to produce a rich and velvety texture. However, it is off a much better quality than Pacific Coffee, Starbucks, Maccas or other wastern cafes.
Ambiance: Sure it's not the most spacious coffee house/cafe but what it lacks in space, it makes up for in cleaniest and comfort.
Service: Patrons must order and pay at the bar before food and drinks are served. Payment by Octopus card is also available which comes in handy. The wait for our order is well managed. Not too long to turnover customers, but not overly quick that you think it's massed produced like Cafe de Coral.
