I had a drink with my girlfriend in this restaurant after dinner last week. This restaurant environment is good, the drinks were good too, but here the service attitude has dissatisfaction, the manager (white guy) was not polite, very lazy sitting aside, I do not know how he can become a management level. Under this service attitude, I will not patronize. This restaurant is not bad, hopefully the management will be improved.

We ordered hummus and baba ganoush. Both were a bit bland, but not bad. Bread was not hot enough and too soft. This place is more for drinks and shisha. Also, drinks price during non happy hour are on the higher side.

I went to Awtar for dinner last week. It was a great experience. We made the reservation before. A new reservation platform for booking restaurant with a good discount for your meal. We got a discount through booking the table by the app! They have the best Shisha in Town and the food were great too! Definitely will come back for other try!

Atmosphere is good, drinks and shisha are nice. I've been here couple of times and everytime has been smooth until tonight. We were sitting downstairs with about another dozen people and have been suddenly asked to move upstairs for the reason it's a quite night... Only me and my friend has been asked to move upstairs... I would have rated this place better if this wouldn't have happened.

I kept bringing friends back and not one was disappointed.

Into the details: shisha they use a small one but it is so smooth and there is so much smoke. Mint, lemon mint, or cappuccino are their best flavours (Ive tried them all). Coconut coal. Cheaper than another good shisha place around yet ten times more comfy and staff are more polite.

Food is authentic Lebanese and especially they have VERY good hummus (coming from a picky eater on Middle Eastern food), and Watermelon Halloumi salad is the best starter imo. Falafels were moist on the inside and tasted fresh, it is so hard to find good falafels in HK!! Best I have had were here at Awtar.

Cocktails.... they have such a range of fun cocktails to try, I loved every one i tried, esp the rasberry one, mango one and an almond one.

Seats are incredibly comfortable. on weekdays you would have little to no problem bringing a medium sized group in while staying cozy on their couches!

Music is also good if you're looking for a balance between club music and quietness so that friends can talk over the meal

I'll just keep coming back whatever Im feeling like, shisha, drinks or food!

I asked if there was more seating downstairs and she gave me this look that it wasn't open because she thought I wanted to sit there but I was just asking for reference and possibly for photos.

It was lunchtime so I got the lunch set.
Luckily I took a photo of the menu because she didn't even tell me that tea or coffee was included.

The lunch lets you sample some middle Eastern dishes but there were some that were obviously not middle Eastern like the lobster soup.

Fattayer spinach:
This was like an Indian bahji filled with delicious spinach.
The sauces given were weird because it was just a mix of salad cream and tomato ketchup.

Kotopoulo rolls with chicken:
This was disappointing because the menu says that it wrapped in filo pastry but it was just spring roll pastry and tasted the same as your ordinary spring roll with chicken.

Loubieh bil zeit:
This was French beans cooked in tomato simmered in spices.
I really liked this vegetarian dish and basically it was soft French beans with a strong tomato puree taste with rice.

The other main was chicken but I didn't like the rice because it was too minty.

I was very happy as soon as I arrived at this lovely venue with a warm greeting from the staff. They were so busy and I hadn't made a reservation. I was very happy as soon as I arrived at this lovely venue with a warm greeting from the staff. They were so busy and I hadn't made a reservation. I probably only waited 30 seconds and they had found me a table for my girlfriend and I.

When we sat down I could feel the cosines of the venue immediately. We didn't have any trouble in ordering our starters as the staff had great recommendations. So we started off with the spicy hummus. It came with warm pita bread. Epic and a must try!

We then moved onto a salad to share. The watermelon and Halloumi salad. it was so fresh with basil in it too.

Now I started to wish we had a group of 8 people to eat so I could choose and taste everything on the menu. (next time!!)

We decided to share two mains as we wanted to taste more food. Next came the Tavuk Shish. Skewered and grilled pieces of chicken. Generous portion! Tender and Juicy! Again... Epic!

We also choose to have the lamb Adana which was a long piece of meat marinated for 24hrs. Presentation was excellent. Large chilli and pilaf to go with it. Pilaf was somewhat filling and just put my stomach on the right track.

We managed to face our fears of being so well fed and had a look at the dessert menu. *Jaw Dropping*

Tiramisu! It had "Baclawa" inside. I didn't know what it was. I had to ask. So it's a traditional Lebanese biscuit/sweet. Honestly the crunch of this "Baclawa" when you dig deep into this mouth watering dessert was amazing. Just a nice ending to what had been a fantastic meal and great experience!

OH! Before I forget! The decor is so cool ..

Highly Recommend this new spot for dinner! My new Favourite place in Soho.

Got a table on "down" floor and it all started nicely.
Unfortunately did the food not live up to the high expectations we had:
The Kallaje Halloumi Sandwich was very bad - one piece of the sandwich did not even have cheese and the cheese was terrible.
We made a big mistake ordering "Homemade Fries".
What we got was raw oily potato - even my grandfather could have done better and can not cook.

My advise: If you can not really prepare a nice dish do not put it on the menu

On a positive:
The beef kebab was nice and warm.

While the chicken Adana was nice but cold which partly is probably due to the fact that we had to wait for the "homemade" chips for ever!

Overall: Can not recommend.

Being true to the theme, Awtar succeeds in creating a very chilled out, relaxed ambiance ideal for spending a comfortable time. A new entrant on the restaurant scene in 2015, Awtar just looks like any small eatery in the SOHO area of Hong Kong where predominantly ''Customer Turnover'' gets the priority over "Customer Service''.
Fortunately, the restaurant is very welcoming & the service is very attentive. They have decently priced quality Sheesha & the servers regularly maintain the Sheesha during your stay. Thankfully, good music is played at a decent decibel where shouting is not necessary to talk with your companions.
Being more of a lounge, it still pays attention to the cuisine it offers. With a very vegetarian friendly menu, you are at a luxury to choose what you want to eat, and hence Awtar does not get monotonous on repeat trips.
We had the Watermelon Salad with Halloumi, Feta Dip, Fried Doughs filled with Spinach, Peynir Rolls, Zattar & Cheese Pita, Falafel Balls, Hummus & Kompir.
The Watermelon Salad with Halloumi is a MUST, and should not be missed. All the other dishes are decent fillers with Zattar Pita & Falafel balls being tasty & authentic. Only the Kompir was a big let down, which sounded good on paper, but completely lacked taste.
The portions are decent sized enough for 4 people. The prices are consistent to prices of restaurants in SOHO, and not overtly expensive for the number of hours you end up relaxing here.
If you are not in a rush, and looking forward to a place to spend more than a couple of hours over drinks, Sheesha & decent munchies, you can surely spend your money on Awtar.
