I decided to get the 'Original Bao,' 2 for $60, which was pretty pricey for what seems to be snack portions. I also had taro fries and a bottle of water along side with it. In total $84!

I'm sad to that the coriander was overpowering and the 'yellow sugar' (the sugar you find with Tau fu fa) added to it really made no sense. Definitely not worth the price. The taro fries were really dry, wouldn't be surprised if they were from frozen.

My colleague had the $48 kimchi fries and that was the worst dish on the menu. Never of the this fushion before. It was more confusion!! The cheese on top was melted using a blow torch and unfortunately it was burnt, making the dish a disaster.

We were there for a good hour and only 15 customers came in! If this isn't a bad day at the office, there needs to be a huge improvement.

All I can say if you come here, you can't go wrong with the bottle of water.

The place offers phone chargers which was interesting and nice of them. The overall decor of the place was dim and narrow. Not too exciting.

For a quick lunch, it's okay. Don't expect much.

Traditional gua bao ($32 per bao, $58 for 2 bao of the same flavour). The bun was super soft and warm, semi-sweet taste. Sandwiched between the bun was a piece of very tender pork belly, some pickled chinese veggies and cilantro (which I omitted), and garnished with peanuts. I was pleasantly surprised that the pickled chinese veggies didn't taste sour and went very well with the pork belly. One thing to note was the amount of fat in the pork belly, if you are a health-conscious person I would suggest to try terriyaki tofu flavour instead.

Being a junk food lover that I am, my meal would not be completed without fries! But sad enough their kimchee cheese fries fall short of my expectation. The fries were too dry. On the upside though, there was copious amount of kimchee meat sauce n cheese on top. Kimchee flavour was there but not prominent.
Would I return? Yes for the gua bao but not the other stuff.

The sharp decor inside with combination of red and white seats and pictures hanging all over the walls for introducing their products. There are also USB plugs for customers to charge for their electrical appliance while enjoying their food.

The Guy Bao flavours mostly belongs to Asian types and they also sell fries and Taiwanese beer. The price range from $35 and also combo for Two Gua Bao of same flavour with drink is $68, extra fries from $12 to $20.

The vanilla icecream rested on the fried Gua Bao melted so quickly although they really tasted so delicious just like the fire meeting the ice.

With the creative flavours and innovative Gua Bao, I would definitely come by again for some delicious snacks when I in Wanchai next time !

Situated at the food street area in Wan Chai - Tai Wong Tung Street. Great Location!
Though the shop frontage is a little narrow, it was eye catching enough to find the shop.

We were standing at the entrance and looking at Menu, we were greeted by the owner.
We were impressed that they have set in a row of table which is especially for customers to charge their phone, very thoughtful.
I have chosen their signature BAO - Original Gua Bao
The base is a Chinese White Bun, and filled with Saucy Marinated pork belly, fresh coriander, crushed peanuts, and Chinese relish! - rich in flavor and I am stuffed by 1 single BAO already.

We would usually get Chinese bun as the base to wrap with "Char Siu", however,it is very rare to have it wrap with stuff like Terikyaki Tofu and Thai Chicken, i would try it at my next visit and it is a Great and Brave Fast Food Concept!

We have wanted to go to Bao Wow for a long time.  We finally walked into the little bao joint and made our order.

We ordered a gua bao and a kimchi bulgogi bao.  Then we sat down at the high table in the dark restaurant.  Very quickly, the two bao came out in a cardboard tray and we dug in.

The first observation was that the clam shell bun was way too thick.  It was stodgy and soggy and did not hold the contents well.  Having had gua bao in Taipei, this one was no comparison.  The pork was OK.  Fatty and soft - it chewed well.  It did not have enough pickle or peanut and had more of a five spice flavour from the braised pork, rather than a nice sugary, peanutty note.

The kimchi bulgogi was a sloppy mess.  The beef was ok - nothing special.  The kimchi was a sweet one and could have done with being spicier and sharper to give the bao more character.

Both of the bao fell flat.  We expected such great things, but we ended up feeling disappointed.  They were not terrible, but they did not excite.

For $32 I got myself a Thai fish fillet bun thing. I don't think there is anything wrong with the fillings, in fact, I liked it a lot. The problem was just with the bun itself, I am just not a big fan of their Chinese? style bun. If they served me with a taco wrap or flatbread or anything else then I would have given them a perfect score. I think there is something wrong with their differentiation strategy to be different?

I came here once to try their Original Taiwanese Gua Bao when Bao Wow first opened but unfortunately it wasn't love at first sight as I had found the pork belly to be too fatty for my taste. I was still curious about the other bao flavors though so I was glad to received a tasting invitation by the restaurant recently! I was still curious about the other bao flavors though so I was glad to received a tasting invitation by the restaurant recently! I had a chance to chat with the owner who actually got the idea for Bao Wow from food trucks in the US, and wanted to bring the growing phenomenon to Hong Kong. It's hard to have actual food trucks here obviously but the fast food concept was replicated as customers order and pay first before grabbing a seat at the counter and high tables. Prices are reasonable at $58 for 2 baos and you can get even better deal with the Bao Platter for $168 with 6 different baos. We got the Bao Platter along with some sides and sweets to try a bit of everything on their menu.

Original Gua Bao - served with braised pork belly, Chinese relish, cilantro, crushed peanuts and red sugar, I still found it to be a bit fatty and heavy with too much sauce. The condiments were more balanced this time with a good amount of relish, peanuts and sugar through out.

Kimchi Bulgogi - I loved this bao and I think fans of Korean food will love it too! With grilled sliced beef, kimchi, and homemade bulgogi sauce, it tasted just like a bulgogi dish but in a bao form which is a great way to shake things up sometimes.

Thai Fish Fillet - this bao featured an exciting combination of fried fish fillet, Asian slaw, and homemade Thai fish sauce which was salty and tangy to eat.

Sesame Ginger Pork Chop - the flavors of this fried pork chop bao were quite interesting with its homemade sesame ginger sauce which was similar to a Asian salad dressing.

Teriyaki Tofu - vegetarians are not left out with this bao which was filled with fried egg tofu, shiitake mushrooms, and teriyaki sauce - perfect for those who wants lighter flavors.

Kimchili Cheese Fries ($48) - besides regular and taro fries, they also had this kimchili cheese fries which turned out to be pretty good! Instead of chili, kimchi was used instead for that spicy kick in the flavors. What an interesting twist! The only thing I guess was that the cheese could have been more flavorful though.

Bao Fries ($28) - onto the sweets! The first dessert was bao fries with Ovaltine condensed milk as a dip. It's similar to those fried buns you dip into condense milk at dim sum so I was impressed that they adopted that dish as dessert here. I love the concept but just not a fan of eating fried things for dessert though.

Ice Cream Baowich ($38) - who can resist ice cream in fried bao! The vanilla ice cream was decent but this was pretty messy to eat as it was hard to take a bite of the ice cream with the bao as well.

Verdict - the menu at Bao Wow is probably as creative as you can get for Taiwanese gua baos with many different and creative flavors. They also have a monthly special flavor to keep people coming back and for July, it's Takoyaki Sausage Bao! I think what would be great is if you can mix and match 2 different bao flavors when you order their baos since the price you pay includes 2 baos anyways. Instead of 2 of the same flavor, let customers try more flavors in one visit. Can I have 1 kimchi bulgogi and 1 pangpang chicken please? =)
