I seldom write negative reviews on OpenRice but this is one I have to write due to the negative treatment I felt in my two recent visits, particularly today given how much value I see in this shop before.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Hong Kong, let alone Kwun tong where it’s incredibly hard to find a small shop with this level of quality food. However, things have changed a lot over the past half year. Business have ramped up a lot since it started but not so in their attitude, especially the lady shop owner. They’ve turned a blind eye on customer experience due to heightened ego. While there’s no question about the food’s quality (for now), the attitude of the owner, is absolutely appalling to the point, it’s absolutely outrageous.
When the shop first opened, they used to be very kind and gentle. They’re were very flexible when it comes to seat arrangements. Normally, I usually get a table for my partner to come have lunch together at around 12:15 or so.
With business improving, they mandate all customers to be present before they let you in to the point that it’s disturbingly insulting. This is fine as many restaurants also require full attendance before they’ll let you in. You hear her ego, attitude and indifference of the shop owner to those who were waiting anxiously in line. The only excuse you hear from her repeatedly is that they have many customers now compared to before and they can’t hold tables anymore.
As a frequent customer before, I was waiting in line for my partner. I arrived at around 12:15 and a lady was also in front of me in line. We were both waiting for our partners to arrive. There were groups of 3-4 behind us who were let in first hence occupying all seats before we could get our chance. The lady in front of me couldn’t get a seat and was forced to leave as well. This ruined our lunch mood completely. What a way to push away your customers when your business has gone so well?
The shop owner emphasized that their policy has changed with a stern face and says if I were one person, I could sit with a group of 3 if I don’t mind. What kind of logic is this? Is she making fun of me?
This is absolutely outrageous. She even took out a waitlist for 1pm thinking I would opt for 1pm which would mean I would be waiting from 12:15 to 1pm.
I won’t visit this shop again given the drastic drop in customer service.
