Went to Chippy's again for my last dose of fish and chips in Central before they move to Sai Yin Pun.I was hoping TopShop would be open on my last visit to Chippy's but it won't open until June 6.It was meant to open in May, but it didn't.As well as the fish and chips I tried the curry too because I have never tried the curry before.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Haddock and chips:The haddock was quite dry compared to the other fishes and the fish taste was not that strong. The chips were as delicious as ever with ketchup and vinegar.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Chicken Tikka curry:The chicken tikka was delicious, it was not too spicy and the pieces of chicken were succulent and tender, however it was slightly salty.Th rice was a bit too hard.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Chippy已坐落中環許久,看門面,沒想過有好野食。許久前無意間從openrice中看到人讚,才留意。但”炸魚”始終未能吸引到我,把它排在試食榜高處。從光顧過的朋友中得知,該店營業至1-2個月,便會結業,搬遷,所以o拿o拿聲去吃。由於店子小,通氣系統不夠完善(但一切擺佈也很整齊),油煙味勳身,所以選擇買走。店裡只兩名,應是印巴藉”夫婦”?主理。女的負責接單,我想吃Fired bar mar,但不想要雪糕,她說要不要雪糕也同樣價錢。我在考慮時,她便問我想要多少件,我只要一件咋,她說ok,收我$25一粒。食物即叫即做,包保脆口!我點了fish burger。嘩!超高高的漢堡包!炸魚size也不細小。炸漿吃不出啤酒味,但相信對”炸”的過程,有良好化學作用, crunchy crunchy!魚塊雖然無乜味,但魚肉非常之滑!!包內夾了蕃茄、青瓜和不少生菜。我怕太飽,就此作"生菜包炸魚"吃,平衡油炸食物之熱氣感。So juicy!其實拿著外賣收穫的袋子,覺得咁重既…打開,漢堡之大,和闊1cm,厚5mm的薯條之多,還有1粒巨大Fired bar mar,也用上一個連蓋鍚紙兜,簡直是店子好像蝕了給我吧!薯條份量好像比堂食還多呢! 薯條...好好味呀!新鮮!Fired bar mar絕對給我驚喜!!外脆內麵團柔軟,味道有點像笑口棗。一叮點油益味也沒有!餡是朱古力…mousse? “mousse”芯內還有焦糖漿。整個Combination超得!!吃到中途,有點不捨得,這麼用心做的食物,又遭租金逼遷?可悲的是,小店獨有的味道、香港本有的文化,繼續被蠶蝕。

As a food blogger, I went there to see what the place is like with 5 other friends. To cut it short, it was not a good experience. As soon as we entered the premises, we were greeted politely but that is where it all stops. The restaurant seems to be a fast food place as well as the repair shop. As explained by the host, their microwave broke down and so, the engineer has to fix it, but in the middle of the restaurant area, bothering every customer and making the other table next to us, feeling uneasy. Those behind me were wondering about the health hazards involved, not least. Whenever one of their kitchen equipment breaks down, be warned.Back to the food, the fish and chips were quite nice, although not the best. There are not many places that make good chunky chips and this place is not one of them: on that occasion, the fries were too oily and it is never good nor healthy to have fries that is still soaking from oil. When it comes to the fish, we had the cod and the haddock. Althought there was nothing wrong with the taste, the problem is that there was nothing that stood out - the accompanying sauce was very bland and that did not help with the taste of the fishes which themselves were well fried, but weak in flavour. In addition, I had the impression that the batter had a little too high tendency to crumble and separate too easily from the fish. That is minor, but I have been to places where the batter sticks to the fish and this is really how it is supposed to be.The side dish of mushed peas was alright and is a good accompaniment to the above selection of fish and chips. However, something zestier/tangier would have been preferable - you might notice that the fish batter and fish were bland/tasteless (not too salty and not very 'fishy' in taste but then again, that is the type of the fish), but combining the complimentary mushed peas with the fish and chips is not a great combination. You really need tomatoes or a lemon , or if possible, tartare sauce with it. As the portions were very average, we also ordered a pie - they had a decent selection but again, the portion was puny. Although we were told that it would be reasonable to share, the pie was really the size of a tennis ball and I would not recommend it to you as a main dish (although it is charged as much as one), but the taste was ok. The place is not very well lit and it is not a good place to sit in. I could not get any decent pictures, because:1) somehow the iphone's performance in the dark is abysmal, even with flash.2) the place is in a dark alley and is not very well lit.Moreover, maybe all the eating experience boiled down to not eating in a pleasant environment, but this place is 'ok' but there is nothing spectacular. I had better.

Another wet damp night with friends...Chippy night it is. Another favourite place of mine. Last time it was a fish burger ( the upside down picture) this time i try not to do it again. While waiting, alittle bit chitchat with the funny owner, He said Chippy is likely to be closing in 1 - 2 months cause of the extremely high rents. He hopes to find a new place for this Fish and Chips shop. It wasnt an easy task to choose the dish for tonight, with all the choices from burgers, butties, pies to Fish and chips. The stand out item for me is the most traditional item on the board. The fish was battered haddock, served with chunky chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce.Haddock is really some cheap white fish out there if you just go to the counter and ask what’s good.It was slightly greasy, but since it was fresh out of the fryer and put on plate straight away, I guess that’s forgiveable.The crunch gives way to the flaky white fish, moist and tasteful. I was glad that the batter wasn’t too thick as wellMushy peas has its importance with the fish and chips, its the vitamin provider to make your guilt go away, then tried the pickled Egg, the solid and firm outer leads to a strong and tangy taste, Yum~ The chunky chips is simply rich and mouthful. The portion is generous enough though we tried hard to put away the last few chips as we are paying full price while few more couples came in with the Groupon thingy,No doubt my another visit is guaranteed.

中環很正宗的炸魚薯條!裝修和英國Chip Shop 一樣。連青豆茸都新鮮過人!喜歡Fish & Chips 的話,誠意推介!Authentic Chip Shop in Central;Great fish and chips.Authentic Decor.Fine mushy peas too!Highly recommended!!Location:Not easy to find. Hidden amongst the stalls. Right across Shake em' buns but you'll need to pay attention. It's tucked behind stalls selling... God knows what...Authentic decor:The moment I stepped into this shop, I knew was at the right place. No doubt about it. Out of the 6 customers I saw in the shop, three of them were Brits. Chilled out Asian (Indian) Chef in the kitchen and Asian staff. (S.Asians are called Asians in the UK. Orientals are called S.E. Asians if I remember correctly, or Orientals.) Definitely a familiar sight in the UK.Top marks for authenticity. The oily smell, simple decor, dim lighting, large dusty tiles, old solid wooden tables and chair sets (even if newly purchased) all add to the authentic chip shop experience. Excellent! NB: The oil smell was quite strong indeed. So suitable for your Marks & Sparks machine washable suit but not your taylor made three piece! Don't wear your best dress. Menu:Comprehensive. Much more than just fish and chips. They also serve a number of curries, pies, onion rings, butties (Buns or bread rolls with different savory fillings like eggs, bacons or even chips!), English Breakfast (but no hash browns ), side orders like gherkins and even battered Mars Bars! Unfortunately, they don't seem to serve haggis anymore. What was interesting was that you could choose the type of fish you want for the fish: To be honest, I haven't really compared different fishes used for fish and chips. So I went for what I felt to be the most orthodox option - Cod.All fish and pies came with chips and mushy peas or baked beans. I ordered a coke with it.After not too long a wait my fish and chips cameiping hot!After I cut open the crisp but not too oily batter, I started enjoying my fish.The cod was great! It's better than what I had at Jimmy's Kitchen (It's good too - they used fresh garoupa, but I like those here more), Trafalgar, and Devil's Advocate (average: the batter was bread crumbs and the fish wasn't firm enough. Chips no good.) ...etc.It reminded me of what I had at the Borough Market and another famous one I had at Covent Garden (forgot the name now)! Is it just my imagination? Might even be better than those! Perhaps, distance makes memory grow fonder. This fish and chip reminded me of those young, naive and slightly lonely days, when the fish and chips at the Strand, Duke of Wellington, Old Bank of England, the Wheel & Barrow, Weatherspoon, the Honest Lawyer(!) and a pub near Queen Mary...etc. provided a nice, filling meal at relatively affordable prices. Also a place to play chess and drink Guinness with friends...(unlike many rip off "fusion" restaurants which tasted horribly bad with stuck up services - the reason why I don't really enjoy having "Western" food in Hong Kong now. It's PTSD .) Memories all coming back to me now...Those were the days. Chips:The chips were fine indeed. Nice, fresh potatoes. Crispy outside but tender inside. Great! I didn't really need to add much vinegar and/or salt as the fish and chips were already tasty by themselves. Just the tar tar sauce andMushy peas! The mushy peas were the freshest I've ever had. For those who doesn't like mushy peas (i.e. most of my friends), baked beans is an available option.As I was about to finish my battered cod, I was thinking how nice it would be if they also serve battered sausage, something I really miss from my student years in England. Then I flipped the menu over randomly and there I saw it: At the Sausage section: Battered jumbo sausage! Right on, mate. I'll be back for my battered sausage with chips and curry sauce!Highly Recommended!
