今日就去咗SOHO區試吓呢一間blacksheep集團嘅越南菜,餐廳地址位於卑利街58號,距離中環地鐵站都唔係好遠唔難搵到 附近亦都有好多酒吧頭盤叫左salt and pepper squid,配以一個沙律醬 魷魚炸得非常酥脆,亦都唔會有油膩嘅感覺,由於我哋叫咗prosecco,送酒嘅配搭非常合適魷魚食得出係非常新鮮,絕對沒有雪藏味 另一個值得推介嘅係short ribs lettuce wraps,佢係模仿生菜包嘅原理 好似一個牛肉生菜包咁,包埋一齊食佢配料就加埋洋蔥同埋花生醬 口感非常特別,值得推介

頭盤叫左salt and pepper squid,配以一個沙律醬
魷魚炸得非常酥脆,亦都唔會有油膩嘅感覺,由於我哋叫咗prosecco,送酒嘅配搭非常合適
魷魚食得出係非常新鮮,絕對沒有雪藏味


另一個值得推介嘅係short ribs lettuce wraps,佢係模仿生菜包嘅原理
好似一個牛肉生菜包咁,包埋一齊食
佢配料就加埋洋蔥同埋花生醬
口感非常特別,值得推介

Wings no complain, crispy, juicy, nice taste. Duck roll my favourite of the night, crunchy deep fried roll, crunchy salad, firm filling, creamy sauce. So many layers and flavour yet balancing.

Fish vermicelli I love the seasoning of the fish, meat didn’t get too rough. Sauce for vermicelli I actually love too, but is too many sauce too less noodle. So is like so heavy salty. Imagine drinking sauce.

Pork belly typical seasoning, sauce is little blurry in my memory. The texture is almost hard and meat was little dry to me.

Charred and Chilled Eggplant $148


A very innovative and delicious dish.


The amount of crab is very generous and it has a very fresh fishy taste which I enjoyed. The taste of the sea is a great friend to dill (an herb that partners with salmon for that delicious Nordic soup) and the warm, slightly grassy taste that it brings works wonders with the tender crab.


The eggplant is charred THEN chilled, not two separate ways of preparing eggplant (charred and chilled respectively) as I thought. Nonetheless, it’s delicious and soft. However, the char is only evident in the area near the stem where the skin is.


The flesh is shredded which made eating it with the crab easy and clean.


I do want to point out that the sauce on the bottom is heavenly. So refreshing. It’s sweet but not saccharine. It’s tangy but not tart and just works great with the coldness of the dish.


The incongruous soft boiled egg didn’t provide any extra flavor as it’s not seasoned but the creamy yolk was nice to use as a dip for the eggplant and prawn cracker.


Speaking of the rain cracker, it taste the same as commercial ones from a packet. Embodying the same greasy after-taste too. It was lighter and better with the eggplant and crab which they intended it to be eaten as.


The menu (and servers) says it has toasted peanuts but I cannot taste or feel it in any of my bites. I do wish I had that toasted crunch for my bites as everything was quite tender and soft.


The ratio of crab to eggplant is 1:1 which I highly appreciated as they didn’t skimp on the meat but it honestly is not worth $148. This portion could maybe feed 2 people? I finished it alone easily.

Sate Okra $78


Chef Logan’s favorite dish on the menu so naturally I had to try it.


A fairly simple dish with grilled okra, crispy garlic and shallots, calamansi and lime juice. This has a similar spice as Szechuan peppercorn, a mild numbness that encapsulates your mouth. The chilli sauce is called ot sa te.


The okra is cooked well so it’s tender but still crunchy. Loved the grill marks on it too.


If you find the spice too much, you can always suck on the grilled calamansi on the side but beware that it’s very tart and sour 😆


10 pieces of okra, not a bad side.

💬 Overall, most (if not all) of their foods are supposed to be bar snacks and small bites. Because of this, they should not charge such a high price for it. Although it is kinda understandable due to the flavors and ingredients used.


However, the service is not that great. The staff mostly talks amongst themselves and they don’t have much knowledge about the foods and doesn’t seem to know customers’ need.

A lovely black series menu that has a variety of siu siks! I absolutely love these menus, I really think you get a true taster of all the best dishes from whichever restaurant you go to…I do love my chicken wings, esp Vietnamese ed. ones, these VFC wings were so bomb, there’s just ultimately something about garlic and fish sauce that makes it so delicious tehe! The crispy duck rolls were pretty good too, kinda like a cheung fun heh.

The shaking beef salad was so so good, I added a rice to pair with it, I personally love it with rice more than salad.. the short rib lettuce wrap taste fantastic too, marinated short rib lied on a bed of vermicelli and wrapped by lettuce, everything went perfectly well together, so flavourful! The salt & pepper squid was great too, so crispy outside and tender inside with strong flavour and a little spicy, love it. I think everything there was rich in flavour, which I like a lot, but some ppl might find it a bit too salty though.

Overall, I enjoyed this meal a lot, love the chill vibe there, food was incredible, a little pricey as a Vietnamese cuisine though.

个大惊人、肉质饱满的两只大虎虾,和蒜香黄油一起烤,刚端上桌时冒着油滋滋的香气,虾的鲜香融合黄油的奶香,很奇妙,蘸上酸甜的鱼露,怎么吃也不腻口。

感觉火候应该是比较难掌控的,虾肉部分虽然做到了口感脆弹,但虾头烤得有点焦了。整体是好吃的,但略微感觉不值这个价。

I visited this place back in 2015 and they still kept my phone record after all these years. Fast forward to 2021 on a Friday night. My friend and I were seated at the bar and the rest of the time was extremely hospitable! Give it up to Logan and John for making the night amazing! They were there to keep an eye on us and better yet, the food was still as amazing as ever ! Thank you Chom Chom for still being an outstanding restaurant!

Chef John回来管black sheep下的所有越南菜了真是喜大普奔 于是乎赶紧来试菜喽 beef pho roll很好吃 主菜选了cha ca Hanoi 是chef回来后新加的dish 连鸡翅都很好吃 当然少不了chef给我们的off menu dish 烤scallop with butter and fish sauce 太好吃了 超爱 5点以后HH点了一瓶啤酒

I have been to Vietnam a few times and do like the taste very much, and tend to avoid Vietnamese restaurants in Hong Kong because none I tried so far came close. May be the odd pho place.

This is a Black Sheep group restaurant and their restaurants tend to be quite good. One is the New Punjab Club. So we had a reasonable level of expectation for Chom.

To be on the safe side we ordered some of the signature dishes (those with a red mark against it on the menu.)

However, as the evening wore on, nothing here tasted Vietnamese at all. To be fair they were mostly boring, not offensively bad. Except that one or two stood out to be exceedingly poor.

I doubt there were any Vietnamese among the kitchen staff, or at least the menu designer may not have been to Vietnam. If they think that people general don't know what they are eating, and the hip laid back atmosphere is all that matters, then they definitely got it right in Chom.

The crispy spring rolls were over dark but somehow managed to be not crispy. Not remembering what the menu said, it was impossible to tell what the filling was. The still wet lettuce used as a wrap made it worse.

The chicken wing weren't better or worse than a hundred other generic western diners.

The Kaffir Lime Chicken Cabbage salad was simply awful. It had a very small amount of hard fried bits that one cannot identify as chicken. It had no distinctive taste at all.

But the worst to come was the fish Cha Ca Hanoi. It was made of the usual low cost frozen sole fillet. But it is a piece of limp cooked fish that had no taste, on a bed of vermicelli, with a small amount of dill scattered around, and the whole thing sits on top of some insipid liquid, much like how an old wrecked car would sit on a pool of slimy motor oil that leaked out over time.

In Hanoi, the most famous place for Cha Ca is a hundred year old restaurant La Vong Cha Ca. In fact the street was named after it. Oil is heated in a pot at the table, with tumeric and a large quantity of dill, then cilantro, spring onion, peanuts and chili. A generous amount of deep fried fish cubes are cooked together in the pot. It is a landmark restaurant in Hanoi. What they call Cha CA at Chom is an annoying insult.

I had some hopes for the braised and shredded beef, having seen the beef on its own in the cooking area. But the dish came with the beef sitting on a very large quantity of vermicelli, and served wrapped in a large piece of wet and limp lettuce. The lettuce easily broke, and I had to wash my hands right afterwards. There was no hint of any characteristic Vietnamese herbs or spices. The beef was simply done a disservice.

It is a wonder why Hong Kong does not have better Vietnamese restaurants. The hundreds of pho places can be good, if they don't for some reason adulterate the clear broth served in Vietnam into a dark broth heavily scented with cloves. That is just not the way they serve it in Vietnam.
