Went to this place for my bf's Birthday as he suggested we try out a Korean restaurant in HK. Korean food is not normally on our menu so it was good to try out something new. Only Korean restaurant I knew about was the one on the 12th floor of Times Square. Did an open rice search on that and it had no reviews! The one that was on top of the review list was this place. So I had to try it out! Booked a table for 2ppl at 8:30pm. Was a bit of an experience trying to book it over the phone as
We showed up at the restaurant 15mins early and the lady said to go away and come back at 8:30pm as there was no table ready right now. I asked her if we would get a table straight away when we got back. She said there was no guarantee! WHAT!?!?! What's the point in booking a table then? We still had to wait in line with everybody else! So I told her we'd sit and wait in the waiting area. There were a lot of people waiting already. After about 10mins, we were called in and sat down. The place looks nice, though VERY noisy. The sound acoustics are quite bad. Very difficult to talk and be heard. So if you're planning on a quiet romantic dinner then this is not the place to go. The staff are very busy and so are very rushed in their serving and language to the customers. They expect quick ordering, serving and eating. Saying that, they were not that busy for a Friday night. Customers started to dwindle down by 9:45pm. No new customers walking in from 9:30pm actually!
Ordered the Chap-Chay, a raw meat platter (bbq beef, lamb, chicken, pork) and a raw ribeye beef with garlic. It was interesting cooking ourselves on the hotplate. The meat was brilliant though I thought quite oily. They gave us free snack plates of salad, kimchee etc. That was good. The chap-chay was tasty but not hot enough. My bf enjoyed the meal. It was very filling. I wanted to try other stuff but couldn't as the meal was already very big with lots of meat and quite oily. The sauces given to us were good. They changed the hotplate for us just once during the meal. I wished they could've changed it more often as the sauce and meat kept sticking on the plate towards the end.
We went there for my bf's birthday but I didn't bring the cake coz of the $100 cake cutting charge. But a large party of people near us were singing "Happy Birthday" and the staff brought out a cake. I wonder if that was "on the house" or if the customers brought that in themselves and paid the cake cutting fee? If it was free, then I should've let the restaurant know it was my bf's birthday too. However, if they did give us a free cake we wouldn't have been able to fit it into us. TOO FULL!!!
After the meal they offered us free dessert. My bf chose the ice cream. I had the red date tea. My tea was hot and very good. My bf was a bit gutted in his choice and wanted a red tea too. But too late! He ordered an ice cream and couldn't change now.
Overall
The meal was tasty, large portions, but I felt quite oily (my bf would disagree). The cooked items were not hot enough. One of the free salad snack dishes had too much fruit salad cream. The red date tea was excellent! Basically, this is not a good place to go if you're on a diet or if you're taking the new "Alli" diet pill. You'd definitely poop your pants in the restaurant as the food there is very fatty and not high in fibre! The service at the start with the booking wasn't too good. But during the meal was fast and ok. The walkway to the toilet was scary. But the ladies' toilets was ok. My bf said the gents was bad.
Not a place to go if you want a quiet romantic dinner for two.
But with that said, I still feel it was generally a good experience. We would definitely go back to try other dishes. The price was reasonable for what you get. I paid $644 (incl 10%) for two people. I felt it was quite reasonable. You should check this place out!
