So, first of all, if you don't read Chinese characters (like me) the name of this place is "Isari Kiya".
They have a location in Citywalk 2 that I've tried to eat at twice, with no success. The first time was after a category 8 hurricane, when they told me they were "out of food". Fair enough, I suppose sushi restaurants are fairly dependent on fresh shipments of things.
The second time was just last night, when they were so busy they walked me (and my wife) to their *other* location, here in Nina Tower. (It's a very short walk.) The other location was busy, but they did have a seat.
They apparently have some sort of "buffet" thing but they don't have, like, a big long buffet table with things you can grab. Apparently you pay some fee for the buffet and then get to order unlimited amounts of things on the "buffet" part of the menu. Unfortunately, which part is buffet is not marked and if you're a monolingual English speaker (like me), it's difficult to have which parts of the menu are "buffet" explained to you. So we decided not to get the buffet.
Here's what we got: fried dumplings, pumpkin tempura, salmon and softshell crab roll, and fried ramen with chicken.
Fried dumplings: Oh man, this was just what I wanted. The Koreans have perfected fried dumplings and the Japanese have been quite right to steal the recipe. Yakimandu is what they're called, but that wasn't the English description on the menu. Amazingly well done, crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. Also, the dipping sauce they come with is very vinegar-y and quite a good accompaniment. I've had better but not often. 9/10
Pumpkin tempura: It was on the "fried" section of the menu, I don't think it was called "tempura". The batter was a little different. Anyway, crispy, moist, sweet-- they were great. 8/10
Salmon and softshell crab roll: Meh. There was hardly any softshell crab (mostly cucumber in the middle of the roll), and the overall flavor was lackluster. Perfectly boring. 5/10
Fried ramen with chicken. I'll say that I've never had fried ramen before. I can't say I was a fan. The entire dish had a very powerful, even overpowering "smoky" flavor. The different ingredients didn't contribute differentially to the flavor, everything tasted the same: smoky. 4/10
All in all, I found this place hit-or-miss. I'd recommend Naruto as an alternative. Final score: 6/10
