以往很喜歡到此餐廳食午餐,一來因為環境特別,二來自己本身喜歡 THAI FOOD。 但自從她們改了午餐的MENU 後便來少了。 上星期五剛好朋友找我食 Lunch, 便提議再一次到訪。今次是坐 OUT-DOOR ( 我其實是想坐 IN-DOOR 的,但 Reservation 時已 Full ),在不太寒冷的天氣下其實是一個不錯的選擇。  只是我不太喜歡在 OUT-DOOR 進餐時會比較難找到服務員。 有時要不停地揮手才可以令服務員注意~ 但整體服務也是友善的。食物方面 ... 改了 MENU 後的前菜是沒有分別的。  我個人時常介紹朋友點『燒牛肉沙律』,那天我友人吃過也叫好。  但我不知為如每次都是點『椰汁雞湯』- 酸酸的十分開胃。  主菜我又是每一次都點『海鮮炒金邊粉』,不是話十分乾身但不會令人感到油膩。  至於餐飲,我次次都是點『Thai Ice Tea』。 注意,此 Ice Tea 其實真的有點甜,不愛此道者我會建議點『Lemongrass Tea』。

小評:

Koh Thai的食物偏向淡口味,無論咖哩和沙爹的味道都並不濃,冬蔭功也並不刺激, 鮮味又欠了點,我個人較愛吃的反而是炸福袋,吃落幾香脆,適合佐酒,其他食物雖不算難吃,但就是欠缺特別的地方。

或者飲酒真的重要過吃東西,在這裡算是不錯的飲嘢地方,食物也變成其次,如果要認真吃泰國菜,這裡似乎並不適合,我只會當這間是屬於輕談淺嚐的地方。

我是糯米的忠實粉絲,所以特別喜歡這個糯米飯;而芒果亦很香甜。

這裡的泰式菜,大概都是迎合了外國人的口味,所以吃不到地道的味道,反而多了一份西式的味道,來不來吃,視乎你的口味吧。

We encountered a horrible rain that night and it was such a challenge to locate myself and let my feet lead me to the restaurant in Wanchai's street-crowd. Koh Thai, has three locations in Hong Kong, two in Central with limited space and self-defined more like a bar where I pass by quite frequently. Wanchai one, on the opposite, is an ideal place for find-casual dining. If there is a nice weather, the huge terrace dining space makes this restaurant a big attraction in summer. A little different

A little different from normal Thai restaurants, Koh Thai is slightly high-end defined as its decoration, its bar-restaurant atmosphere and its decent presentation of dishes served. Of course, it is still in the causal-dining category, thus I wonder argue too much on the looking and services.

The dine-in (in-door) space is quite limited compared to the huge terrace outside. Interestingly, they have a 100% transparent kitchen policy which I said 'hi' to the busy Chef and took a picture for him. I was over-excited to find some awesome fish-dishes 'on-the-arrow' under the hands of the Chef


Another impressive point to be mentioned is the 4-5 bar-seats just at the entrance. I noticed about them when I stepped out the restaurant on my leave, and it was the another-picture-feel scene that some expats were enjoying their 'in-rain' drinks, caught my attention.

One of the Virgin Cocktails, as a welcome-drink or even pre-appetizer, it was quite refreshing and sweet to delight me in this crazy bad weather. Unfortunately, I was not given enough time to enjoy this drink, for its over-ratio of milk and ice to melt into water too fast.

I was influenced so deeply by my best girl friend when we re-unioned again in Hong Kong. Since that, I had tried a lot coconut in Wanchai area, and I shall say the coconut I had in Koh Thai is so far the best. The coconut water was so fresh and clear in taste, and I felt the just-right softness of the coconut meat when I tried to spoon-off them from the shell.

The first dish is a Chinese-killer, for its interesting name, 'Treasure Bag'. Well, it is not only smartly named, but also well made. I love the deep-fried wonton pastry which is thick enough to hold minced fillings (chicken and pork) in an impressive density.

Choose 3 from 5 items ( Fresh/Deep-fried spring roll, satay, pandanus-wrapped chicken, prawn cake and fish cake). I would like to have Fish Cake and Fresh Spring Roll again. The former one was deep fried to be a little greasy with an attractive smell and contains the soft, chewy and slightly-sweet taste inside. The latter one was perfect in its fresh spring roll skin, which was a little rice-sticky and sweet, but melted perfectly in the mouth.

The famous Thailand's spicy shrimp bouillon with lemongrass,kaffir lime leaves and galangal, was featured in its sourness to us that night. Personally, I like it quite much, for the lightness the soup was, and the strong flavor it kept.

Gaeng Massanmun Ka Gae $178

As the menu, 'fall off the bone' meat is used to describe this slow-roasted lamb shank cooked in Massamun curry. I agreed to it but the lamb shank was not in the soft way of my thinking. The water is over-squeezed from the lamb and even the slices were falling down themselves, in the mouth I didn't get enough tenderness. On the opposite, I like the curry very much for its peanut-flavor. It was sweeter and outstanding from other curries in its peanut-aroma.

Gai Phad Med Ma Muang Himmapan $115

It is quite similar to the Mixed Stir Fried from the night-street restaurants in Hong Kong. The dish didn't have a good presentation and in fact, I didn't like the stir fried chicken which had too much fried flour and lost the chicken texture. But I couldn't stop taking those stir fired nuts, onion and water chestnut.

Pla Kra Pong Tod Sam Rod $198

The dish made me excited before the dinner from open kitchen is this one, and it was definitely worthy for your money and your quota. They deep fried the whole wild red snapper and decorated with the huge fish head, as a whole, wooed the whole table when it is presented to us. For me, the best part was the deep fried fish skin was a combination of crunchy and glutinous texture. A special sweet and sour sauce with chili is served with the dish to remind a typical Thailand flavor.

Fresh mango with sticky rice in white and black, interestingly I was more in the milky-sticky coconut milk sauce which delighted me a lot by its coconut-aroma and natural-sweetness. The hardness in the core part of rice was also what I was looking for to this dessert.

To add up the whole dinner, a lot of our crew, was looking forward to a cup of hot tea. This Ginger with Lemongrass one is quite good to the rainy weather, which warmed up the blood after a long stay under air-conditioning, and the fresh tea also cleaned up the mouth.

When it was ordered, I did not know it was the signature dish but it turned out to be my favourite because the meat was so soft and came off the bone easily drenched in sweet and spicy dressing which is a nice change from Western smokey ribs.

香料下得很多有香茅,檸檬葉,薑, 莞茜等,而每人更分得大蝦一隻。
當一口呷下時酸味頗為濃重,而辣味頓變成配角,未能做到兩者平衡,
確有點失手。

seafood red curry - 海鮮的分量也不少,有帶子。蝦。青口等,辣中帶甜咖哩很開胃,我地外加了兩次薄餅來點醬汁,yummy!!

通菜 - 吃得出菜是新鮮的配上特色的泰式辣醬。

這裡的環境舒適,食物質素好,待應態度友善,就連toilet也乾淨企理。good 呀
會再來!

餐廳正進行儲印仔的 promotion, 每消費$100 就有一個印,儲夠10 個於下次進餐時就可享有100的折扣。而且暫時未有deadline, 愛吃泰國菜的你還在等什麼?!

Anyway, Koh Thai had pretty decent reviews on openrice so I decided to give it a try. When I called in for reservation the other end spoke English only, but when I did go to the restaurant it seemed like the servers spoke Canto mainly.
The location is a bit hard to find since it’s inside a tiny alley with its own staircase leading up to the entrance. Lookout for a building called J Senses and then look for a dimly lit Koh Thai logo along the alleyway.

-The portion is quite small and definitely wouldn’t be enough for one person as an entrée
-I don’t really remember the sauce, but I recall that they didn’t use ketchup which is a good thing. It wasn’t spicy though, but they did provide a small tray of difference sauces that you could add to your liking
-There were only a few pieces of shrimp but they were big and fresh
-I like how they added bean curds into the mix as it absorbed the sauce. On the other hand they added too much bean sprouts and green onion

-The chicken was well roasted and the meat was still very tender and moist.
-They marinated the chicken before roasting and I think it was the marinade that made it so good. It’s slightly light and slightly sweet.
-It came with some chili sauce, but I didn’t find it necessary as the chicken itself was good enough.
-This is one of their chef recommended dishes, and I can see why. It’s very delicious and done well!

Our bill totalled to $400/500 ish for 3 people and the food was enough for us. I wouldn’t necessarily pay a second visit, although they do seem to have some sort of happy hour promotion which looks like a good deal.

第一次試試這間泰菜, 這裡格調頗高, 原來價錢比Mango Tree平易近人得多。我們坐外面, 其實今晚頗涼, 事前致電餐廳想轉坐入面, 不過full了。餐廳的感覺帶禪味。點了出名的柚子蝦沙律, 柚子算甜, 但份量不多, 可能我期望太高的關係, 感覺不算突出。令我留下頗深印象的反而是這個西蘭花炒蝦, 不是一般的乾炒, 底層有少許湯汁, 幾特別。而那湯汁味道很好, 帶起西蘭花與蝦的味道。可以一試! 青咖哩牛 - 青咖哩的味道辣度剛剛好, 令我想起了在曼谷時的惹味青咖哩。牛肉是比較韌, 煮得老了一點。Phad Thai - 份量頗多, 味道都可以, 不過沒有Phad Thai應有的辣味, 就沒有那麼開胃了。整體來說不錯, 可以再來。

When I told the waitress, she took it away and a replacement arrived a few minutes later that tasted the same. Main - salmon in curry sauce. A good piece of fish. Sauce a bit rich. Potatoes under cooked. Tea - a bit too sweet. Overall - no bad, not great.

Starter - Thai prawn soup - way too salty. When I told the waitress, she took it away and a replacement arrived a few minutes later that tasted the same. 
Main - salmon in curry sauce. A good piece of fish. Sauce a bit rich. Potatoes under cooked. 
Tea - a bit too sweet. 
Overall - no bad, not great.
