It's been a year since I came here and I remembered it was quite good. So, on my day off, I decided to return. I noticed they starting doing lunch sets as they didn't have this in the past. Lunch sets are around $150.

Since this place is famous for their cold soba, that's the lunch set I ordered. For $150, you get a shrimp sushi, a salmon sushi, three California rolls, five pieces of tempura, a braised pork belly, one bowl of chawanmushi and of course the cold soba. A lot of food. Portion size was also quite large especially the chawanmushi as it was steamed in a rice bowl! However, portions may have increased in size, but quality has decreased. The chawanmushi was not very smooth. The tempura, though very hot, was also very hard. And the soba wasn't very smooth and chewy.

After finishing my soba, they have me the miso soup to mix with my soba dipping sauce. This had also changed. Once fragrant, was now just overly salty. And afterwards, my throat was so dry from obvious addition of msg.

Though the lunch sets may be a good deal compared to their dinner prices, the quality has definitely gone down. Won't return.

Heaven knows we will eventually be miserable in the future with way too much tonkotsu ramen around.

What to get here? Well for a first timer like me, and if you are really in the mood, it seems that soba is the best bet. Of course there are other dishes on the menu should you feeling like having some izakaya tapas/snacks.

After a rather lackluster and disappointing visit with the fresh hand cut soba at Gonpachi Causeway Bay, Kurotaki was a nice change of pace.

Four types of soba offered, and unfortunately I did not take great notes. But the trio/combo works great...except the one I really wanted to try (premium soba) is not part of the trio (no substitutions allowed).

Of the three, I think I liked the Inaka soba the best. Standard color and texture with a darker shade of brown. The others were good but not earth shattering.

The tsuyu dip sauce, I would have to agree with my friend....while it is better than the store bought bottles used by restaurants in the USA, it could have been better if they seasoned it in further in house. Maybe a stronger and smokier katsuobushi presence? But the soba-yu was delicious...especially if mixed in with some tsuyu for a warm refreshing broth after having the cold noodles.

Overall the soba tasted like they were from refrigerated packets, maybe shipped in from Japan, rather than made in house. There could also be a consistency issue as well. But the overall experience on the soba alone, was more pleasing than Gonpachi's soba (perhaps my bad luck of the draw).

I'll gladly come back here instead of lining up 2 hours at Butao :-o

又是join 了吉列專門店Tonkichi會員的關係,當中包括此店$100的現金卷,剛好今天經過世貿中心,所以選擇了此店吃晚餐。此店是香港比較少見的蕎麥麵專門店,賣點是鮮製的蕎麥麵。等候入座大概用了二十分鐘,我們在等位時已看了餐牌,所以很快便可以點餐,我們選了和牛火鍋蕎麥麵套餐,當中包括了刺身兩款,和牛,蔬菜盛合。另外點了白桃骨膠原特飲。刺身是三文魚和油甘魚,厚切,十分新鮮。火鍋是昆布湯底,我們先煮蔬菜,和牛有六片,雪花平均,配上芝麻醬,十分美味!蕎麥麵,看似分量不多,但煮完後發現其實絕對夠二人吃飽。鮮製麵條果然同市面上買的乾麵條口感不同,比較有彈性。

另一午餐,看起來很大鍋的和牛鍋,其實很眼淺
兒甥話牛肉肉質細嫩,配料豐富有金菰,香菇,旺菜等味道清淡。三片三文魚刺身同樣甘香可口。泡菜冷豆腐沒什麼特別。蕎麥麵沾上配搭了山葵,青蔥粒,海苔絲的鰹魚汁同吃,麵條尚算彈牙有麥香,美中不足是麵不夠冷,入口沒有那種冰涼嗆感。吃過麵後店員會送上有益的蕎麥湯加進鰹魚汁內同喝,本身無味的蕎麥湯,混和了鰹魚湯效果就像稀釋了的醬油湯,沒什麼驚喜。

侍應送來鍋底, 好為我們把所有蔬菜配料放到鍋中, 先把它們煮一下, 讓昆布湯底吸收蔬菜的鮮味; 蔬菜顏色吸引, 配料豐富, 包括椰菜, 豆腐,南爪,金菇, 冬菇, 皇帝菜, 日式大蔥等, 亦有日本魚蛋. 菜類全都鮮甜多汁, 新鮮爽口, 特別要提的是豆腐,南爪和日本魚蛋, 豆腐非常滑溜, 煮得久了亦不會散開, 亦吸收了湯底的甜味; 南爪相信是日本的品種, 口感似蕃薯, 有點結實, 但味道有濃濃的南爪甜味; 日本魚蛋一向不是我喜歡的東西, 因為它們通常麵粉味重, 難咀嚼, 但它十分爽口, 一咬開有很清脆的感覺, 甚少麵粉味.
另外, 松葉蟹的蟹蓋和蟹身(切開四件), 全都在湯裡. 蟹蓋有蟹膏, 結實而味道濃; 蟹身仍然有很多蟹肉, 一梳梳而吸收了湯底的味道; 一整隻松葉蟹就給我們吃掉了, 證明這個餐用料充足

I have been here quite a few times and was surprised that I had to give it a negative review this time.

Since it was lunchtime, the lunch sets were posted on the entrance but as I was specifically here to try something on the A la carte menu I asked if the al la Carte menu was still available and I got this extremely rude reply from the receptionist:

"WHAT"

so I repeated myself, do you serve the a la carte menu as well?

Then there was this disgruntled WHAT AGAIN?

So OK, perhaps she doesn't understand ENGLISH so I said "MENU" instead of a la Carte and she finally understood.

Anyway, finally sat down and ordered the noodles which took ages to come, while I was waiting, one of the waitresses came over and asked if I needed anything else because they were taking their last orders.
I would rather they chase up my current order instead of prompting me if I needed anything else and perhaps the late arrival of my food was a punishment because the receptionist was irritated.

Basically there were three different sobas, from left to right: Inaka Sobas, Shiretoko Zarusoba, and Sarashina.
My favourite was the Shiretoko Zarusoba (green), the Sarashina soba itself was salty without the dipping broth and the Inaka Soba was too al-dente and tasteless.

It was my first time trying this soup so I did not know what to expect but I was expecting it to be refreshing according to the previous reviews, but the yuzi taste was not refreshing at all, I could only taste yuzu peel.
However the boiled soba taste was strong.

把田舍、之藏、金科全部試完,其實口感真的沒有大分別。

店員中途送上蕎麥麵的湯,用於最後加人醬汁內,一起飲。知道蕎麥麵的湯好健康,但不太喜歡這個味道。

每次到日本出差,都會到一間小小的蕎麥麵食,有70%、80%、90%、100%成份的蕎麥麵,,每款好感都不一樣,蕎麥味的濃度也不同。味道每次都令人回味無窮...而且食完覺得好健康。這裡完全沒有這種感覺。

走時諗住影下個門口,點知店員已急不及待的關門...

先呷一口熱湯,鹽味很重,醬油味道非常濃郁,說真其實是有點過鹹,但由於筆者已有兩天完全沒進食,口淡舌白,竟然對這超重口味沒絲毫抗拒,還一口一口地喝得津津有味呢!至於麵條,雖說不上甚麼爽滑與彈性,但入口充滿麥味,加上分量非常迷你,只消一會便一掃而空。

另食友點的黑蒜油胡麻汁知床蕎麥麵 ($88),雖然筆者並沒品嚐,但據說這款加入了昆布和海草製成的翠綠色蕎麥麵,口感亦頗煙韌,加上色香醇厚的黑蒜油、偏濃的胡麻汁及甜肉碎後,為味道生色不少。

其實根據日本傳統,吃完蕎麥麵,店家會奉上一碗味道清甜的蕎麥麵湯,可惜這天我倆點的麵款均沒附送,下次再來,真的要一試那碗帶柚子味的 soba soup, 味道如何。

I chose the Chilled Shiretoko Zarusoba with sesame and black garlic oil sauce for the THIRD TIME because this was my third time dining here.
As for my foodie friend, I recommended the plain soba which is just soba in soup. No meat, No oil and it was hot too!

Luckily the soup was quite salty, because after having had food poisoning everything tastes tasteless and there is a craving for salty foods to replace the lost salts and fluids.

There are many types of noodles available in Japan – many of them are not known outside of Japan as they are really restricted as regional dishes. Wish I could try out all of them one day as well. I remember having some really gorgeous rice noodles in Japan that are served with Medicinal soup bases, or really great Soba noodles in Fukui in Japan. Kurotaki in Hong Kong is the only current Soba shop which grinds the buckwheats and extrude their own soba noodles from in-house, what exclusivity! My last visit to here was only ok but in need of more attention Kurotaki (I), but since it was during their new openings I once again emphasize that I will always give any place the benefit of the doubt, just because I know kitchens always take time to synchronize to their full potential properly and this will take months to get on top of their game. This time around, I was much more impressed in the taste at their soba and hope I could do them justice in the end anyway. *Note: This shop also belongs to the Pokka Group HK, which also runs the Tonkichi which I had just reviewed prior to this.

I had to try this because I wanted to try the soba made with seaweed and kelp.
The sauce was interesting and tasted of sesame and black pepper. The menu does not say it has pepper on the English but the Chinese has.

The combination of sesame and ground black pepper was quite good because the spicyness of the pepper balances out the creaminess of the sesame sauce.

I just had to get these noodles as well because all my favourite elements were there: natto beans, egg, okra, kelp, mountain yam and grated white radish.

These noodles came with a separate wasabi vinaigrette sauce and it tasted really refreshing that I poured all of it.
The noodles also had these delicious tiny crispy buckwheat seeds that looked like ultra tiny dried chick peas.
