Tong Yum Goong HK$178

Larb Gai HK HK$128

Kai Jiaw HK$138

I was a bit put off by the reviews, and worried about the service I may receive, but decided to try my luck anyway. When we approached the counter, we weren't sure where the table were... all you see is a counter and a lot of sign saying "take away" which makes you think you can't dine in... but no! I won't spoil the surprise by describing the nice trick to get to the dining room: check it out yourself!

Once in, atmosphere was good. We were escorted to the candle-lit table and offered water, menu, suggestions, and explained that although we could ask for food to be brought in a particular order (e.g. first appetizers, then mains, ...), the concept was that food came whenever it's ready. We settled for that, that's how Asian food should be enjoyed anyway!

To the food. We got (in no particular order):
- Hor Muk Salmon: salmon cubes steamed in banana leaves with a coconut gravy...interesting flavour, but the great part was some salmon "cream" (for a lack of better word) inside the banana leaf wrap.. delicate and tasty at the same time
- Larb gai: interesting take (as in the spices used) on the "minced meat wrapped in lettuce leaves" Thai dish you can find pretty much anywhere (here it was minced chicken).
- Panang nuer: very good wagyu beef curry, served with brown steamed rice, with a couple of lemongrass "skewers" of grilled beef on the side

But our real favourite was the soft shell crab curry! It looked pretty unassuming, deep fried soft shell crab, but right when we thought we were done with it, we found, under a layer of herbs, a delicious creamy curry of crab meat!

We didn't try the wine, so can't comment on that, but that one cocktail we had (the one with two types of Thai rum, can't recall the name) was very nice. Had also beer (IPA), that came in a can rather than in a bottle, and that's probably the only slightly disappointing aspect of the whole dinner.

All in all, nice atmosphere and very good service, reasonably priced considering the location and the quality you get.

It was very obvious that they had no knowledge of their own menu. The check came out of the no where while we were still eating!

Food was just mediocre.
Another thing about their service was that all the carbs, i. e. noodles and fried rice came before the appetizers.

We had phad thai, crab cakes, duck curry, omlete, fried rice and a pork salad. All just normal tasting Thai food, nothing spectacular, and portions were small. Only the salmon souffle appetizer (the only photo I took) received an "interesting" comment from our table.

I am not one to care too much about the service if the food is great. But if you are only serving mediocre food with a large price tag I would expect more of a dining experience.
All in all, it was a cute venue, but there are A LOT OF room for improvement.
