So far, I've tried NYF three times (I work in one of the buildings around Harbour City) and I'm somewhat disappointed in what I got.
The first time I tried it was just after it opened. As a canadian, I'm was so happy to finally get a poutine that actually has cheese curds in it. Cheese curds are way better than the mozerella cheese on fries. Everything was perfect! The gravy, the fries, the curds~
But the second time I tried it was far less pleasing. I'm not saying the service is bad, but the fries came out was very disappointing.
In general, they tend to overcook the fries so that is not golden brown, but rather abit more brown than golden (you can see it in most of ppls pictures). That's definitely not what should be done with NYF. I brought it to the office to share with my friends, and while we were going through it, we found one fry that actually had a droplet of oil slowly congealing.. you can imagine how fast we stopped eating it.
I just had a regular sized NYF today, hoping that the browning was just a one time thing.. but of course, it wasn't. I'm not sure if this is a HK thing, because the ppl there were just loving it. I was disappointed once again.
I think the browning comes from reusing the cooking oil too much.. which is odd as other NYF (in Canada) never has that problem. It would be very very thoughtful if they can resolve the browning problem (it really leaves an aftertaste)
Overall though, the price, the taste, and the feeling of home makes this place a great to eat.
