I came here on the recommendation of one of my fellow expat Americans, who told me it was "pretty good pizza," and I guess in the end I'll agree with that assessment.
Quite predictably, I had the American pizza-- specifically, the Napolitano style American Hot pizza, which comes with Hungarian pepperoni and jalapenos. My two favorite toppings are pepperoni and jalapenos, so there you go. Here's an overly elaborate break-down:
Crust: The crust was my favorite part. It was firm and crisp, yet still a little chewy. Probably a little too chewy as it seemed a little undercooked on top. Still, good. 8/10
Sauce: Sweet, but not too sweet, distributed moderately. 7/10
Cheese: Not bad but nothing to write home about. Not fresh mozzarella, and a little on the greasy side. It also had a tendency to fall off the crust, taking all the toppings with it. 6/10
Pepperoni: A little too fancy for my taste. They give you a fair amount of pepperoni, which is a good thing, but the pepperoni is pretty greasy. I know that's a general hazard of pepperoni, but that's why I like thin-sliced pepperoni, which has less grease and gets nice and crispy in the oven. This was, well, some greasy sausage slices on a pizza. I think we're supposed to be impressed that it's from Hungary. 6/10
Jalapenos: Canned/ jarred as you might expect. There were only about 10 or so on the whole pizza. They could've used a rinsing, because they imparted a very pickley flavor to the pizza. Despite the fact that this was the 'American Hot' pizza, there was no hint of spice in the jalapenos (or anywhere else for that matter). You can get hotter pizza by sprinkling red chili flakes on it. 4/10
Overall: Decent pizza, but a tad too greasy. I paid $180 for the pizza + ice tea, and it wasn't worth it. It was just pizza I'd have been satisfied to get in New York, but with a fancy-pants pretense about it like shredded mozzarella and canned jalapenos were gourmet. You can sort of tell just by looking at the patrons that its the sort of place you go to pay more than its worth. I think next time I have a craving I'll just catch a slice at Ebeneezer's. 7/10
