debut Persian food experience at Saffron, the first and only Persian Restaurant in HK, and I’ve been awesomely impressed!


The dinner started with two traditional Persian Drinks … their signature Saffron Lemonade and I have Orange Blossom Drink which have lovely mellow aroma of orange blossom and slight sweetness.


Then we have two yogurt appetisers - Mirza Ghasemi 烤茄子泥 and Mast-O-Khiyar波斯風味青瓜乳酪蘸醬 that pleasantly refreshed our taste buds.


Highlight of the dinner obviously is Kebab Lovers雜錦烤肉串 with:
Lamb Koobideh 烤免治羊肉串
Chicken Koobideh 烤免治雞肉串
Saffron Joojeh Kebab 烤雞胸肉串
Chenjeh (Beef Kebab) 烤牛柳
Persian Style BBQ Grilled Chicken Wings 波斯風味燒烤雞翼
Served with Saffron Rice and Flat Bread, 藏紅花米飯及中東烤餅, Shirazi Salad and Homemade Garlic, Basil, Chilli Sauces. This is completely stunning and gorgeously delicious 💯


We also tried another main course Feserjan 紅石榴核桃燉雞. It’s is a homemade festive Sweet & Sour Stew with Chicken, Pomegranate & Ground Walnuts Sauce. It’s yummy and really one of a kind!


This authentic Persian feast was delightfully wrapped up with Classic Baghlava 果仁蜜餅 and Persian Black Tea 波斯紅茶.


As what my friend mentioned we really enjoyed the experience to taste the delicious food. It’s simple yet sophisticated, authentic and nicely served and presented.


Persian food has a subtle balance between the use of fresh herbs and spices, sweet and sour flavour … Persian cuisine mythology of food categorized as either “hot” (garmi) or “cold” (sardi) ie it helps to restore our inner balance. Just like the Chinese food classification system of hot, warm, balanced, cool and cold.(猶如中國食物食物的分類系統的熱、溫、平、涼、寒總共五種性質)!

I will for sure return for more Soltani kebabs, Chicken Wings and Bastani 藏紅花雪糕!

Fesenjan配番紅花茶 
我喜歡凍飲,但番紅花茶卻是少數的例外。熱的番紅花茶能帶出番紅花茶的香味(近乎的淡淡玫瑰花味),過後還有一股餘韻。
Fesenjan 是雞肉羹,甜酸的味道就是淡淡的茄汁醬,好易入口。雞肉則有肉味,較平常的茶餐廳好不少。

As an iraninan, i guarantee their taste is similar to what we have in our country Their kebabs are perfect.Most HKers (same as my gf) can not eat lamb, but i promise you will be ok after trying their lamb. Great experience with Persian food! Lamb Koobideh with saffron rice. Orange Blossom Tea. Love the juicy, flavourful meat and the crispy edges. Thought the minced meat mixed with the spices so it gives a bright flavour. Orange Blossom Tea is refreshing and pleasant aroma. We really enjoyed the simply but tasty meal.

It's my first time trying Persian Cuisine at LOVEAT. Kebab Kobideh is one of the old dishes of Iran. It's a grilled meat dish that made with ground lamb, chicken, beef or a combination of the two. Whether the lamb, chicken or beef, all tasted incredibly moist and flavorful because it's marinaded with a mixture of saffron, onion and yoghurt. Served with Naan / Saffron rice and homemade garlic sauce.- Mix Koobideh with Naan (HKD168)- Bakhtiyari with Rice (HKD160)- Royal Saffron Sharbat (HKD48)

然而波斯菜沒有印度那樣用上大量香料讓味蕾應接不暇,也不像其他中東地方(例如阿拉伯人的中東)有些菜式那樣辛香爭鋒。波斯菜好像只有一兩種香料(似乎都逃不過用番紅花)。然而 Kabab 沾 garlic sauce,卻表現細緻深刻的 savoury 滋味,這就是小妹說波斯菜「微妙溫柔」的意思啦。與 saffron rice 是妙美的絕配。

Naan 是有點兒乾,而 saffron rice 用 basmati 。米飯香氣獨特(basmati 就是印度語芬芳之意喔)。Basmati 不是泰國 jasmine rice 洋溢之香,而是低調,有些 woody,性格適合波斯菜風華內斂。如果吃慣泰國香米,basmati 低沉的味道可能要多吃才習慣。Taste 是 acquired 的喔。Taste (口味)與 acquired taste (品味) 之別,不正是後者多了兩個口,要你多品嚐嗎?據聞 basmati rice GI (glycemic index) 低,對血糖影響輕,似乎是米飯的「健康」之選。

選配 Mast (yoghurt) 或 Shirazi Salad 伴吃時,我們則不約而同皆心儀沙律。 Shirazi Salad 不可錯過冰涼冷然的沙律,連盛器都雪凍了,微微檸檬果酸,淡然卻瑰麗,吃下去陣陣回甘。小妹最怕那些嗆喉的醋酸,Shirazi Salad 清瀅和一點 tangy 十分怡人。

聽聞波斯菜需要心機時間,都是慢工細貨,尤其是他們的 stew。我們胃納有限,只叫了 Fesenja,那是 ground walnut and pomegranate chicken stew。石榴的清香、輕甜之味,不知如何貼切形容,palette 上就是感受到有種精緻、nuanced 的貴氣。誠然那幾件雞肉已經燜得過了火。

茶先喝,但最後才講。波斯愛茶,有源遠流長的喝茶文化。茶室之內,一壺茶,點心數款,談天說地。Persian Black Tea 喝了一口,素淡粧容,旖旎的玫瑰花和 cardamom,依然是很 subtle 的香味。這是伊朗產的茶嗎?小妹覺得像來自印度或錫蘭的紅茶。

不過朋友說帶酒來喝,小妹不禁莞爾
,跟他說這裡是清真餐廳啊。

伊朗是個大國,幾道菜式不可定義,例如很有名的 Aush Reshteh ,一款節慶的湯品麵食,這裡沒有,不過 kabab 與 stew 應該是對波斯菜式很好的引介。看似粗枝大葉,味道簡潔而雅氣,吃完深深回味啊。在這小店中一頓 casual 午餐是 serendipity 。

最後容許小妹拋拋書包,引述波斯詩人 Omar Khayyam 在他《四行詩集》中說,Iram indeed is gone with all his Roses, And Jamshyd’s Sev’n-ring’d Cup where no one knows; But still a Ruby kindles in the Vine, And many a Garden by the Water blows。從前雖逝,當下仍有美好的物事呢。
