Staff was extremely rude, pushing the chairs against table and throwing the cutlery on the table (maybe end of their shifts, but still), She looked at us angry when taking our orders. And the washrooms were utterly disgusting like not cleaned for days-Was a big fan of their curry but the service was so unacceptable that will not go again- don't go!!

這個前菜相當好吃!我們叫了兩碟呢。類似幼小的通菜,放在鐵板上炒熟,上面放一隻半熟卵及提子乾,混合起來吃。放提子乾的組合有少許奇怪,吃起上來效果出奇地不錯。

來到主角,「馬拉松雞 (椰子湯底)」$88,一大碗咖喱汁浸著一隻雞髀及各款蔬菜,湯底味道較似東南亞風味,而且椰汁與咖喱雞味蠻夾。雞髀肉已經炆到爛,問題不算太大,橫竪我們都是要撕開互相分享,好吃。

湯汁方面做得不俗,件牛肉漢堡就好唔得,硬倔倔乾如柴,一點肉汁也沒有,漢堡完全不建議!

至於拉麵與白飯,明顯白飯更優勝,因為湯汁較稀,令拉麵不容易掛湯,加白飯就會變湯飯,始終咖喱與飯在大眾心目中已是一 pair 吧?!

Been to SAMA at Gough St many many times. One of the reasons is the close proximity to work, primarily of course, is the food.

They offer a selection of hokkaido style soup curry with a good mix of toppings plus a standard set of vegetable. The highlight is one gets to choose the level of spiciness for the curry, ranging from 1 to 30. Personally, i like to ENJOY a meal so i tend to choose a milder taste. For those whom think they cannot handle the spiciness, stick to a number below 5. As the staff always say, if it ends up not hot enough you can always spice things up but you cannot reverse it.

Customers can choose to have rice, ramen or udon to go with the curry (rice is standard, the noodles at an extra cost). Topping-wise, my personal favourite is the patty. Pan fried, not over-cooked and generally taste good (it's a patty, not an A-grade steak what else can one ask for). Pork is not recommended, the cut they use has way too much fat attached. Chicken and seafood are decent choices as well.

SAMA is one of my favourite lunch places. I take friends there, challenge them to eat level 30, no one has fell for it so far...

It is not situated at an eye catching spot, accommodates around 20 people. It is typicallly full during lunch hours, go early to avoid the wait.

Thanks to my lovely buddies for taking me here for a birthday curry because I love curries especially Indian or curries that taste good.I like the curries here because they serve soup curry.The beef burger patty was a bit dry though.We tried the tomato based curry which was quite good and we also tried other dishes.The water spinach and brussel sprouts are worth trying.

充滿驚喜的新發現,日式湯咖哩飯。今次試咗咖哩雞全髀。整隻雞髀淹沒於咖哩汁內,十分之入味。而咖哩辣度易可以因應自己喜好,由1至30度(剛試了辣度10就已經感覺到熱血沸騰)。雖然辣度十足,但出奇在於辛辣的餘味不會殘留在口腔太久。絶對迎合喜歡吃辣而又怕辣的人仕。

睇完EXHIBITION免得餓壞肚子,就跟三倆到九如坊找好吃的,走著走著好奇看到這間木門口的餐廳,以熊人圖案作招牌, 細看是間咖哩店,朋友們無其他提議就內進一試。燈光昏黃食客不多,都差不多是晚上九點,這小區很正常的吧!店內空間不大,齊整地放了四、五枱座位,乾淨俐落。英文餐牌分了幾點作選擇,自由度勁高。首先是辛辣度1至30,非常細緻;繼而是湯底味道:椰子、蕃茄及鮮蝦;最後是配菜雞肉、海鮮、豬肉或素菜任君選擇,另可再額外加多項菜式, 很豐富呢!鮮蝦湯10個辣的豚肉野菜咖哩是我今晚的主題,外配有珍珠飯,香氣以蝦味主導,咖哩份量有湯碗般多,除了本身點的餸菜也跟了半只半熟蛋,野菜包含許多款式:蓮蓬、筍、秋葵和蘿蔔等。特別之處是咖哩濃稠度,取替了傳統的變成湯咖哩, 都是第一次品嘗到,食材味道都入味,不會太咸,辛辣中性應適合一般嗜辣者,咖哩香濃蝦味重,没有日式咖哩的椰子甜。由於選擇分項細緻,三個人都可以有三種不同的咖哩,這樣的個人化可以滿足到大伙兒不同需求。

Firstly, I don't expect to be greeted with a big smile when I walk in but I do appreciate seeing a relatively warm face (vs. black) from the waitress. It is good that they offer you a glass of water but it would be great if they don't try to refill your glass when you are busy eating your curry. It was shocking one time when the waitress attempted to reach my glass across the table when I was spooning my soup, that move was just unnecessary. To be honest, I do enjoy SAMA's soup curry and I usually try to empty the whole bowl, and I am asked if my bowl can be taken away every single time I am about to finish my meal. I guess you can tell if someone has finished his/her food easily, right? A few times I had to stop the waitress and said to her, no, I haven't finished, neither has my friend. And a few times I had to hold my spoon to pretend eating (in order to fend her off). It makes me wonder if they want me gone as soon as possible? 

Overall,I would still visit this place for the food but I am fairly disappointed with its service, remember this is not a 茶餐廳, and I don't think it should consider itself one.

The restaurant is also a nice place for a couple of drink with their Hitachino Nest draft beer imported from Japan. There are also a wide variety of small bites to go with your chilled beer, like spiced chicken karaage, tempura taraba crab legs, creamy garlic prawns and more.

There are 3 spicy levels (Baby Bear, Adult Bear, Crazy Bear). If you win the Crazy Bear spicy level 30 challenge, you can be on the wall of fame with a photo.

Marathon Chicken with Tomato Soup- Baby Bear ($88)

This curry soup has tender chicken leg with assorted veggies including asparagus, capsicum, lotus root, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, baby corn, potato, eggplant, okra, and a runny half egg. We tried baby bear which was not spicy at all, big like big like!

We have to highlight the soup base. The soup base is shipped directly from Sapporo, Japan. It is not cooked in Hong Kong like some of other restaurants do. The soup was slightly thickened and rich in tomato flavour with the blended tomato bits in it, which makes it easy to go down by just drinking it. The soup went super well with the warm Japanese rice. Traditionally, we should dip the rice into the soup, rather than pouring the soup over the rice. You may also have complimentary additional rice you think the rice is not enough for you!! Good news for big appetites!

p.s. we have also tried the adult bear spicy level 15, it was already spicy enough to make us sweat! If you think you can handle it, feel free to take their spicy level 30 challenge!

Deep fried corn croquettes was steaming hot and the slightly sweetened sauce complement well with it. It should be a perfect pair with a glass of chilled beer.

Another deep fried dish that should go well with a glass of beer. The chicken was moist and tender, while the skin was super crispy and flavourful with all the spices sprinkled on top. The lime also enhanced the whole thing with a more citric taste to it.

My choice was the Oink Oink (HK$96) with pork in a tomato curry soup. My spiciness level was 10/30 which is what the staff recommended after I asked him what I should go for. He told me that if I can eat spicy food normally, then I should start with a level 10 first and while I was tempted to go higher at first, I was glad that I stuck with a 10 because it was definitely pretty spicy! It's just at the right point where you can get your spicy kick satisfied but not too uncomfortable so that all you are tasting is the spices. While I enjoyed the curry soup a lot, I wasn't too keen on the pork belly which wasn't tender enough while it had a burnt taste to it. I would like to try the seafood or hamburg next time.

Vegetarian Bear with udon

I went for the Vegetarian
Bear with udon (HKD 78 + 10 for udon), tomato base and level 10. It was more
like a soup rather than the usual thick curry sauce, its taste lean towards Indian
curry.

I thought I would go with
an average of level 10, the tomato gave a bit of sweetness. It was still spicy
but bearable. Their udon tasted like store bought ones but I thought a soupy curry
sauce suits noodles more. I got a large variety of vegetables but I found them slightly
too oily.
