Came here on a Tuesday night, there were some people but not fully packed. We got the hummus with lamb bits and pita bread for apps. Started with hummus! A bit different from the ones I've tried before this hummus seems to have a bit more zest and I would say a bit less creamy in texture but it's quite good.

Beetroot salad. A little more sour than I would've thought.

Main course: seabass. Very crispy and the sauce on it was quite delicious mixed with pinenuts.

Then a chicken and beef duo with fries. This dish consists of beef tenderloin and probably chicken breast or thigh (I would guess it's probably thigh). I would say I enjoyed the chicken a bit more than the beef. The fries were delicious though.

I usually go to Sumac restaurant when I am in the mood for a fancy and delicious group dinner, and I am never disappointed. The quality of their product is incredible, especially the meats and chicken. Seriously, their mixes grilled platter is simply the best in Hong Kong, PERIOD. Each bite into the chicken, lamb and beef skewers is an invitation to heaven for your taste bugs. The meat is tender and extremely well seasoned. Congratulations are in order for their Chef (whom I don’t know the name) for succeeding in offering simple but great dishes and products.

The rest of the card is also great and the hummus and halloumi and even the fries are great highlights on the side of your main dishes.

Definitely worth coming, the amazing decor and the food is amazing. The moment you walk up to the restaurant you can feel the intimacy of the decor. Is small and romantic, and not the mentioned the great Lebanese food they offer. Each dish is carefully made and crafted, the chef definitely out did himself. My other favorite part of the restaurant is the next door lounge, you can also order food there as well as smoke shisha at the same time! Been coming back here couple times already!

First time to this restaurant, I don’t like the restriction on booking, either 6:30-9pm or 9pm thereafter, of cos, I ignore it! We had some salad, humus which are nice. For main, my friend suggested 2 main to share omong 3 as portion is big. We had show cooked lamb which is not wild at all, Chicken sharwarma is good but nothing special very simple, not sauce or other ingredient.

Our server wasn't too friendly from the beginning but we weren't too bothered as we just wanted to have a chill evening. However when she refused to give us hot water after we ordered two pots of teas and three alcoholic drinks for four people in addition to shisha, with the reason "one drink per head" it just became non sense. She said only after taking away tea pot she would bring us water. By the time we were asking for hot water, restaurant was empty. If there were other customers waiting for the table, we would have understood however that was not the case.
They lost customers with poor services and they will continue to push more customers away unless they improve services and become not so adamant about small matters (can't even refill water once after charging 85hkd for a small pot of tea?) Unfortunately it was not a pleasant evening for us and we would not go back to ruin our night with bad service again but good thing is that there are other good shisha places in central and it would not be difficult to get better services than this. I gave one star in hygiene as one bathroom was out of order and second one was not cleaned at all.

We were with two and I thought that the tables for two were not positioned in a great way (one against the bar, one behind the door and two behind bigger tables between two poles).

The waitstaff was very friendly and quickly gave us our menus. We ordered to excellent glasses of Chilean Merlot and at 65 dollars a glass, it was a good deal. Still, it was the cheapest glass they had. They also offer lots of Lebanese wine which normally is not bad.

We opted for eating mezzes only. We had hummus  which was quite good. It had good consistency and plenty of Tahini flavor. For my liking, I would have liked a little more lemonjuice in there though.
We also ordered Mouhamara, a dip made from walnuts, dried bellpeppers and pomegranate. We liked it a lot. It was silky smooth and sometimes made you believe you were eating pate.
We also had a nice salad (bottom one on the list with cold mezzes) and it had a fantastic dressing. All came with nice slightly toasted thin flat pita bread.
For hot mezzes we ordered Haloumi (nicely grilled, although we thought it could be grilled a little bit longer) and Kibbeh (ground lambmeat with pinenuts and spices with a lamb/bulgur coating) met yoghurt sauce. The Kibbeh was good and very smooth.
Finally we had Falafel which is a favorite. Here we were a bit disappointed. The round balls were worked too much. They were a bit gloopy and did not taste like falafel we know. Still, could be a different version, but it was not to our liking. Just a matter of taste perhaps.

One thing I did not like was the fact that the hot dishes were served with some salad leaves that had seen better days (brown tips and some dark spots). I did not expect a chef to put these on a plate.

We were offered some nice desserts but we were full. Next time.
Other Info. : We left satisfied and will return. However, this is not a place to go to if your budget is limited. We spend 860 dollars and had ordered 6 mezzes, a bottle of sparkling water and three glasses of wine. That is not cheap. Quality was good however, so it was worth it.

This is great place for a date or romantic evening.

We sat in the courtyard and it didn't feel like we were in HK. There was a large selection of appetizers and mains offering the traditional lebanese dishes - humous, halumi cheese, babah ghanoush, chicken, beef, lamb, etc. We ordered a glass of wine each and the meat platter for 2 to share with lebanese rice and green beans. The meat was fantastic. It was heavily seasoned and the meats were fresh with each distinct tastes. The chicken had a chargrilled taste which was tender and cooked just right. The beef was probably one of the best beef skewers I have had in a long time. The meat was tender and seasoned just right where you still can taste the beef. Lastly the lamb chops were delicious. Cooked just right. For a plate that offered 3 kinds of meat I was pleasantly surprised all 3 of them tasted so great. Normally one kind of meat would out shine the others but this time all three held to their own.

The Lebanese rice was very tasty. It was slightly salted with some vermicelli and toasted peanuts. It went really well with the meat dish. The green beans were a bit different to our liking. It had a slight sour seasoning to it which I wasn't too keen on. The green beans were also cooked a bit too well. Again, not sure if this was how it is supposed to be cooked Lebanese style however from a personal viewpoint it wasn't as good as the other dishes.

By the time we were finished we were too full for dessert. The portions were of great value. They did offer Baklava, ice cream crepes, apple crumble and dessert wines and liquors.

I will definitely go to Sumac again and will recommend this to friends as well. Great find!

And then, we had the chicken liver and beef skewers. Both of which were extremely tender and juicy. I would definitely come back to this restaurant. It gave me an excellent feeling towards having a relaxed night out with friends enjoying good food and wine. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to you if you have a romantic date or if you have a birthday party etc. I suggest you calling in advance to make a reservation because this place is a popular hit in LKF and it is always packed.

Not really ideal place for a large group, especially if you want to stay indoors.
Fortunately, they were able to accommodate us in the "garden". Although it was a bit warm out that night...

We had great service with the waiter, as he gaged our group correctly.
Appetizers were great: very nice humus w/ lamb mixed-in; tabbouleh was very refreshing; and baba gannoush very flavorful.
For mains: we shared the mixed grill, which are various meat skewers and are pretty standard for mid-eastern food.
Highly recommend Sumac spot prawns: large prawns very succulent, cooked in sea salt and rosemary flavor...

Lastly the baklava was fantastic with a drink of Arak, which is a Lebanese liquor (liquorish or anise taste, but without a heavy after taste).
Need to have the server show you how to prepare it if you are not familiar...

You really hate to see people try hard but still fail at what they're doing.

Sumac is going through what Keanu Reeves did when he took the stage in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1995 to try his hand playing Hamlet. Most people were waiting to hear if he still sounded like Ted Logan from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Just like Keanu can act Shakespeare but probably shouldn't, Sumac probably shouldn't be selling itself as a restaurant. Particularly given the venue, a nice lounge or café setting -- and menu -- would suit their skills a lot better.

We had labne (whipped yogurt) and the poorly named scallop fricasée to start. There were just two pan-fried scallops to be found atop a hill of very tasty haricots verts. It all tasted good but was a bit of a letdown. The hidden gem was the fresh, hot pita bread. Keep it coming.

For our main course we tried the mixed grill. The chicken kebabs were tender and delicious, especially with the accompanying garlic sauce; the beef kebabs were tougher but still flavorful; the lamb chops were barely warm, chewy, and almost tasteless. Both the return of the green beans and the Lebanese rice with pine nuts as side dishes were much appreciated.

By this point, the drumbeat of missed opportunities (add to this the randomly distributed wine list) was getting pretty loud. I was thinking of the
face and the sad face and not concentrating much on the meal itself. What saved the whole experience from a total writeoff was the baklava. Somebody back in the kitchen knows what they are doing in the dessert department. Highly recommended.

If you want to suck back some wine and snack on some mezzes and dessert, you may satisfied with Sumac. The service is OK and they seem to know what they're doing. But the full dinner experience was rather underwhelming.
