We went to Sumac for the first time tonight for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. We always saw this on Arbutnot road and Glenealy when we ride in a taxi so decided to try this. The restaurant is not huge - probably 10 - 12 tables inside and then in the little courtyard 3 tables. The atmosphere is simply decorated with dim lighting. This is great place for a date or romantic evening.

We sat in the courtyard and it didn't feel like we were in HK. There was a large selection of appetizers and mains offering the traditional lebanese dishes - humous, halumi cheese, babah ghanoush, chicken, beef, lamb, etc. We ordered a glass of wine each and the meat platter for 2 to share with lebanese rice and green beans. The meat was fantastic. It was heavily seasoned and the meats were fresh with each distinct tastes. The chicken had a chargrilled taste which was tender and cooked just right. The beef was probably one of the best beef skewers I have had in a long time. The meat was tender and seasoned just right where you still can taste the beef. Lastly the lamb chops were delicious. Cooked just right. For a plate that offered 3 kinds of meat I was pleasantly surprised all 3 of them tasted so great. Normally one kind of meat would out shine the others but this time all three held to their own.

The Lebanese rice was very tasty. It was slightly salted with some vermicelli and toasted peanuts. It went really well with the meat dish. The green beans were a bit different to our liking. It had a slight sour seasoning to it which I wasn't too keen on. The green beans were also cooked a bit too well. Again, not sure if this was how it is supposed to be cooked Lebanese style however from a personal viewpoint it wasn't as good as the other dishes.

By the time we were finished we were too full for dessert. The portions were of great value. They did offer Baklava, ice cream crepes, apple crumble and dessert wines and liquors.

I will definitely go to Sumac again and will recommend this to friends as well. Great find!
