五月下旬‧晴我是happy hour動物,工作關係又好,個人興趣關係都好,除了練跑的日子,真的差不多每天也要去happy hour。是日約了師兄,傾傾他那環遊北海道的行程,選了這裡。當舖是在這一區我最喜歡的happy hour地方之一,環境一流,舒服好坐。是日坐在露台的位置,雖然沒空調,天氣又有點熱,不過喝起生啤來,也不錯。這裡都有幾款別處不常有的生啤,就要了杯Budejovicky Budvar。這個捷克牌子,其實喝不出有什麼特別之處,味道重,啤酒花味香濃,口感較乾身,清爽順喉。埋單師兄請,在此謝過。

7月1日(星期四)下午,我和女友在酷熱的天氣下行寶雲道步道,完成後便坐巴士返回灣仔,約女皇出來見面閒談。正當我苦惱去哪裡之際,突然望到這裡,記起女友曾經多番想來這裡見識見識,又離女皇住所不遠,二話不說就走了上來,此時店內的人客並不算多,我們就隨意找了張長梳化坐下來等待女皇駕到。當女友通知女皇後,我們便看Drink list點飲品,大熱天時當然要杯冰凍生啤來,這裡的生啤選擇也不少,好像共有六款,就選平時較少機會喝到的Budejovicky來試試,麥味較重,但夠冰凍才是最重要;女友不喝酒,就要杯Mocktail Pwan Breeze,由apple、cranberry、sour & sweet and fresh lime juice組成,雖然有多款果汁,味道卻不太酸,性質亦很溫和。等了良久,女皇才施施然來到,好像叫了杯Berry Smoothie來喝,然後就向女友訴說“苦況”,當中少不了問這問那,喋喋不休。始終我較喜歡去外國人經營的pub多一些,點杯飲品便可坐上一、兩個小時,感覺悠然自得。就這樣,我們談到差不多晚飯時候才離開。

食飯前,黎左呢到,唔知點解,冇咩興趣試下係呢到食野,飲野算吧。星期五晚,人多到呢,冇沙發位,黎飲野,吧枱也不打緊。環境實在不錯,餐牌好多選擇,夏日炎炎要的係生啤,有六款生啤,自已要的係stella,沒有勇氣試新野,來個穩陣吧,冰凍非常,朋友的唔記得左,好似係麥啤,不過d泡望落真的吸引。六十蚊杯,輕輕鬆鬆個半鐘。侍應生黑臉的,可能係環境黑啦。

The lamb shoulder wasn't bad but it was a bit gamey. We also had a sides of mash, peas, and a few salads.

The service on the other hand was not the greatest, they really didn't pay much attention to our table and didn't check up on us at all. For some reason it took 25 minutes to get our desserts and I don't think it was the kitchen cause it was already quite late and most of the guests had already left.

But the food did make up for the service and I definately recommend the rotisseries for anyone who wants to visit the Pawn.

非常美味! 本來看到名字時還在想究竟是什麼呢? 上桌時就覺得是塊很漂亮, 加上少許黑松露的蘑菇多士. 但吃下去可不得了! 黑松露和蘑菇的味道都很濃, 再配上大量的olive oil, 整塊多士都吸盡了olive oil裡的味道精髓, 是我們二人都絕讚的一道前菜! 雖然油真的有點多, 但我們又不太介意, 反正olive oil是健康的, 多吃點也沒關係=p

燒乳豬

重回舊地的主要原因! 美味依然, 但今次有點不同的是乳豬皮比上一次硬, 用刀是非常難切開的, 但奇怪地用口卻可以咬開. 而今次這小乳豬也比上次吃的肥了點, 朋友很喜歡, 我反而會喜歡瘦一點的, 沒這麼膩嘛~ 如果我們是3個或4個朋友針的話, 就perfect了!

7) fish n chips ($180)
我既main course。好好味,chips好熱,而且fish又係好crispy,跟tar tar source一齊食好好味。好english style!

dessert:
8) summer fruit pudding ($75)
同事既dessert,試左一口,berry味好rich,size剛好。
9) toffee pudding($75)
我order既toffee pudding 。10個正........

熱pudding上配vanilla ice cream,一凍一熱,好正。雖然係toffee,但又唔係好甜,個pudding其實係蛋糕,texture有d 似carrot cake。同ice cream同食,中和了飽滯感。

由於我地開左3支白酒($345/支),最後埋單:$4500。
其實唔貴,因為大家都食得好飽。
serve我地既男仔都好nice,好知道幾時refill 酒同bread。

tried to arrange a party but very disappointed at their cold, unfriendly manner, particularly the girl who answers the phone, normally in the afternoon time. (mind you that they position themeselve as a hip, stylish, high-class restaurant, but I felt only a low-class service). seems they are not experienced enough to handle a large party, very unprofessional for not returning calls.their food might be brilliant, but already lost interest to find out.

別說是老外,就是本地人亦會為被這霓紅光管燈影跟木樓梯吸引,而要走進這店看看. 這天跟友人在灣仔活動後,沿着電車路行,正要找個地方歇歇,就被pawn那老香港味吸引着.穿過木樓梯,我倆像回到八十年代的香港,木地板,木傢俬,小茶几,大大的陽台,裝飾得雅致又舒服. 這裏人很多,但八乘是老外,有點不習慣呢! 倆人佔了長梳化的一小位置,要了兩杯cocktail lychee fever 同 pawn reborn. 長長的杯身,滿載了果味酒精... 與友人一年沒見,友情依然沒變. 朋友,工作,感情談過沒完沒了. 以我倆的習慣2nd round是少不了,這次朋友要啤酒splitfire,我就轉轉口味要了whisky. 沒頭緒的我,當然有勞靚仔waiter推介. 他選的轉轉口味,相當不錯,豐盈而細緻的酒味,飲罷還在喉中迴轉. 因次日還要早起,所以double up只有留待下次.

上星期六晚去 Pawn 食晚飯, 見到個餐牌既價格都幾貴, 普通一個 starter 都要成百元....我地點左 Duck Breast Salad, Ham Salad, 青口, Roast Chicken, Fish & chips, Risotto, 3 dessert....total 8 persons....cost $270 per head.隻 roast chicken 好貴, 成500一隻, 不過好好味, 好嫩, 算是 ok 了...其他食物都很有水準, 我都估唔到 唔洗 300埋單, 可能人多吧...但係我地全女班, 食量少, 所以都 ok...如果有男生, 相信就不可以了, 因為每碟份量普通。我覺得我很滿意.....

Dining at the Pawn for a few times and normally will go there during the winter time due to we like eating out at the Patio/ balcony area, summer time is a bit too hot for sitting out there.It’s quite a nice place to chill out with friends… food quality is ok and they serving high end fusion style of British pub food. Dining at the Pawn for a few times and normally will go there during the winter time due to we like eating out at the Patio/ balcony area, summer time is a bit too hot for sitting out there.

It’s quite a nice place to chill out with friends… food quality is ok and they serving high end fusion style of British pub food. Most of their starters were very nice, such as seafood salad, pate, oyster were very fresh as well. For the main dish, I quite like their duck breast and we also tried their fish & chips and pork loin rib. Will strongly recommend their apple crumble dessert, it’s very tasty. You’re looking at about $750 per a person for dining with a starter, a main, dessert and wine.

The entire mix went nicely with the dressing, fresh and big portion served, enough to be shared among two

FIsh and chips, peas and homemade tartar sauce $180
Served on a huge plate with a freshly deep fried baramundi, it's undeniably juicy however the crisp kept falling once you stick ur fork in, the chips couldn't be bad but not surprisingly understanding either as the potato used weren't the australian ones

Maybe the dinner menu would offer some surprise, and yet $180 for a good fish & chip would be too much, isn't it?

It's a cool day therefore siting outdoor at the balcony was quite confortable, though tables were set a bit close. Basically there was one server designated to serve at the balcony, helps from others when he's too busy together with all the wester expats sitting around me, I thought I was having brunch back in Vancouver.....
We had our soft drinks while placing our orders and bread was automatically offered as well, even replenished without asking....

For the Brunch we had
Wild Mushrooms on Toast, Truffle butter - mushrooms lying on top of the toast and tasted very rich and oily, the toast turned to be very soggy

Salad of Spinach, Bacon, Roasted Garlic, Stilton and Walnuts - compare to the mushrooms dish this is more refreshing, with the strong flavour from the bacon , garlic, cheese and nuts..

Fish and Chips, Peas, and Tartar Sauce - a typical dish from England....and this one is actually well made, a big piece of fish fillet fried to be tasted perfectly....no over done or fishy in taste, very generous with the Fries which I couldn't finish.

Roasted Beef, Yokeshire Pudding - quite a nice roast tender, juicy and the horseradish was mild, the pudding though not every one cup of tea my friend finished it..

Steam Choco Pudding, Choco Fudge, ice-cream and toasted walnuts - was surprised that the texture was a bit chewy having said that it's still a nice dessert to wrap up the meal...

Since it's mother's day whenever there's female on the table, the dessert would have a greetings written on the plate with I suppose Rasberry sauce and a free Carnations as a mother'sday gift.
Even though the price is a bit stepe, The Pawn does offer a reasonable quality and quantity of food, provided if you appreciate the English food which is Simple and Wholesome, with a decent service, and the place is actually interesting to dine and drinks.

So when I heard that The Pawn is serving bone marrow inspired by St. John, I dragged my friend to pay a visit just for this dish.

Unfortunately when we arrived at The Pawn slightly after 2:30pm, we were notified that the dining level (for lunch and dinner) was closed and only the bar level was opened. Imagine how disappointed I was! Instead of finding another place, we decided to sit down at the bar level anyway and just chat our way through the afternoon. The room was spacious with a pub-fare feel, but was literally empty. There was only one table occupied at the patio, and we opted to seat outside as well to enjoy the breeze. Browsing through the menu, we ordered two non-alcoholic drinks and a dish to share. While waiting for our dish, we took the time to enjoy the surroundings of the old Wai Chai district which was certainly a striking contrast to this modern and chic establishment. I could see how it appealed to Westerners and tourists, as it exhibited why Hong Kong is an interesting place, where East meets West and Tradition meets Contemporary.

Our two drinks arrived first. My friend’s Very Berry Smoothies ($68) was a mix of low fat yogurt, strawberry juice, raspberry, and blueberries. It didn’t taste much different from what you could get from other smoothies joints, and you could detect tiny bits of the raspberry seeds and blueberries skins blended nicely with the thick yogurt that contributed to the creamy texture. Not exceptional but certainly fresh and well balanced in flavor and it was quite filling as it wasn’t watery at all.

My Vitamina ($68) was a more adventurous choice as it was a twist to the traditional virgin Bloody Mary. Instead of tomato juice, they used carrot juice and mixed it with celery salt, Worcestershire, lemon juice, and Tabasco. I always like salty and sweet combination and have an affinity to fresh carrot juice, so I enjoyed this drink fairly well. However, this acquired taste might not be appealing to everyone, so I will only recommend this only those with an open mind.

The menu featured a lot of drinks from cocktails, wine, non-alcoholic, flutes, and martinis. I imagined that it would serve well to those who like a wide variety of drink options.

While we enjoyed our drinks, the English Breakfast, toasted sandwich ($105) that we ordered was quite a disappointment. It came in a gorgeous plate with the halved sausages, tomatoes, bacons, and two sunny-side-up eggs stacked on top of a single piece of rye toast (so it wasn’t really a sandwich). “Wait, where are the baked beans or the hash browns or the bubbles and squeaks?” was my first thought. Normally I wouldn’t be too picky about English breakfast which was not supposed to be inspiring anyway. However, at this price I would expect something more than very chewy sausages (doubted that it was homemade and it was so chewy that I had to spit out some pieces), not-crispy bacons, and just 1 piece of toast. The whole dish also lacked any kind of seasoning. The only saving grace was the eggs which were probably cooked with runny yolks. Overall, this was way below my expectation given how appealing their menu items appeared.

We didn’t want to gamble and order more dishes, but my friend wanted to have a cappuccino ($48?) to round out the meal. It was quite standard and served it purpose.

Service was, um, hard to judge. Our waitress disappeared as soon as they delivered our food. I wasn’t sure if they were trying to give us all the space and time to chat or if they just didn’t care. Since they did smile and were courteous, I gave them benefit of the doubt. The receptionists were very nice as they brought us to the dining level and the rooftop to view the space for private events.

Overall, I had mix feelings about The Pawn based on this visit but I won’t be ruling this place out yet until I have tried their signature items during a proper meal.
