We didnt know that there was an elevator, so we took the stairs and walked up. The bar is on the 1/F. The environment and atmosphere was actually pretty nice. ( I think I will come back for a drink or so)

We made the reservation, so we dont need to wait.

Appetizers: Oysters
Small Plates: Cauliflowers with cheese and Roasted Potatoes
The Cauliflowers was okay, but i think i would prefer fries to roasted potatoes. The potatoes were plain.
Main Courses: - Lamb Racks
My friend tried them and they couldnt finish it. The serviing size was kinda of huge.

魚先煎後上麵包糠, 然後焗, 造成外脆內滑, 原條送上令我有衝動去來個漫畫式的大快朵頤, 可惜魚的新鮮程度欠佳, 肉質鬆散, 令整道得體的菜式失色. 友人在享用她那溢出肉汁的hanger steak, 配以忌廉雜菌, 菠菜, 紅酒鍋汁(red wine gravy).

Hanger steak 以肉味聞名, 又名Butcher steak, 意味著是肉販留給自己的非賣品. 礙於肉質比較緊密, 若烹調技術不足, 就會韌. 選此菜一定要選medium rare或rare, 否則會失去hanger steak的精髓. 廚師把肉煮得恰到好處, 肉汁鮮美, 雜菌的泥土味,菠菜的金屬味, 跟香濃的紅酒牛肉汁互相輝映, 我友人對一向生肉不大好, 也把整碟吃一光.

此點我屢吃不鮮, 自己亦用來宴客. 廚師朱古力慕絲, 白蘭地浸西梅作點綴, 蛋糕鬆軟帶有烘大麥芽的微酸, 慕絲軟滑, 西梅醉香, 把整頓晚餐劃上一個句號.

不得不提是服務生的態度超卓, 對客人需求的配合, 對細節的觀察力, 在香港非常罕見. 主廚David Tamlyn亦親自向食客詢問意見. 另外,優惠時段限於下午六時至七時半. 我們於六時半進場, 點菜, 喝Cocktail, 加上焗魚需時, 上菜已是七時十分, 期間麵包可隨意添食. 我們理應在七時半前付賬及離席方可享用半價優惠. 眼見時間緊迫, 我便向經理查詢. 經理寬容的提議我們先點甜品及付賬, 然後慢用. 最後我們八時多才離去.

Presentation: Plating has improved a lot, looks nicer and matches the price point

Taste: scallop appetizers - awesome. Pork belly - really juicy meat, crispy skin, well seasoned; good size. Quail - tender, light and flavorful. Cabbage + bacon side - yum. Buttered mash - yum yum. Only ding - the sticky toffee pudding dessert was a bit burnt and dried out from overcooking.

The new chef even came out to talk to us and ask us about the food. Affable british dude.

六月不是一間便宜的餐廳,勝在環境舒服,簡簡單單的佈置吃簡簡單單西菜,概念就是這樣簡單。這天來是因為工作關係,主角是GOD的老闆,做了些筆記後,亦試了一些店方安排的菜式,有吞拿魚扒亦有蒜片蝦,說真的味道很濃的菜不太適合我,但這道蒜片蝦,非如同OLE的正宗做法,但蝦爽嫩,與鮮味的醬汁配搭起來,也很可口,簡簡單單,吃得滿意。這裡是個chill out輕食好地方。

Normally it comes with roasted tomato, chips and a peppercorn sauce but I'm quite a fussy eater and I requested mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and the sauce on the side which they gladly did for me with no extra charge!!! My partner had the proscuitto wrapped salmon but instead of having the normal salad with artichokes she changed her sides to mash and spinach. Both of our main courses were very very good, no complaints what so ever. The service was splendid throughout the night. Servers were very attentive and always came to our needs. Nothing had to be asked twice and they made sure we had a nice time. I'm not much of a dessert fan but my missus is so she ordered the fresh strawberries with clotted cream and shortcake for us. To my surprise they wrote happy birthday on my plate for me in Chocolate, I LOVE IT!!!

I have to mention that the SIDES here are delicious!!
The portions are just right and well seasoned. Cabbage and bacon was the best imo. Mixed beans salad was great and so was the beets and green bean salad.

As for the mains they are british influenced. Braised lamb shank was very tender and flavorful! Their salad leaves are also very fresh.

Didn't get to try their desserts. Their decaf coffee could have been better.

Overall for the ambiance, view, food, service I feel like it's worth the price. I wonder how often the chef changes the menu.. would like to come back another time!

The Pawn in Wanchai used to be an old pawnshop. A few years back, as Hong Kong started to preserve her heritage, the place was declared an historic building and has since been revitalized as an English restaurant.

I actually visited the place for lunch quite some time ago but never got the time to write the review. Passed by this place a few days ago and noticed that it was still offering set lunch at $150. This is really something unusual but good to consumers under the rapidly mounting inflationary pressure. So I figured that I owe them a review.


There are two entrances to the Pawn. One is from an elevator by 大王東街 while the other is from a flight of narrow stairs off Johnston Road.

We decided to walk up the stairs and revisit the feel of the old building. The first floor is a pub for drinks and looks like a good place for casual gathering. Another floor up is the restaurant. The inside was spacious, with old wooden furniture, wooden plank floors and preserved architecture.

The prok was grilled to a charred/crispy skin. The inside was topped with a thick layer of fat which looked very filling, but not oily and fatty at all to the palate. The apple sauce also neutralized the filling sensation of the meat.

The size of the serving is relatively minute but suited the appetite of Qoo very much, al dente and refreshing.

For dessert, we ordered chocolate bread and butter pudding and tried Eton Mess. We never tried Eton Mess before. The hostess explained that Eton mess was an English dessert consisting of a mixture of strawberries, pieces of meringue and cream, traditionally served at Eton College's annual cricket game against Winchester College. That was the background. As for the mess itself, the presentation certainly lived up to its name. The taste was a bit too creamy and heavy for me personally. But at least I've now learnt what the mess is what about and is definitely worth trying.

大年初二,繼續趁假期與老公享受美食。考慮下午要到港島東探朋友,就預訂了舊日和昌大押的The Pawn,必須要講整幢建築物充滿懷舊古典風,裝修佈置又骨致,來這裡享用午餐真興參觀完一幢古蹟無異!雖然餐廳可由大王東街的專用電梯,直接搭去1-3樓,不過是日二人先由底層祗月中的小樓梯,在印有The Pawn,以及since 1888的地磚留下足印後,才慢慢步上1/F的Living room。這一層的主題既是客廳,全層也真的有如豪宅人家的客廳,佈置古雅精緻,同時滲出一絲絲慵懶氣氛,是飲野吹水的好地方。參觀完一樓,趁時間尚早,又到了3樓的天台逛逛。The Pawn Roof是個透著天然光的大平台,亦是天價$50,000情人節餐的用餐地點,說著也真好奇今晚有沒有豪客預訂這裡呢? 由頂層又可眺望街下灣仔風光,假期當日繁華的街道也頓變清靜,看著別有一番風味。也是時間去到預約的2/F Dining room,去享用我倆的午餐了。這層格局十分fine-dining,與樓下Living Room的悠閒感,是兩種截然不同的感覺。店內又設海鮮吧,擺放著各式新鮮生蠔,不過二人只望了一眼後,就繼續前往真正的目的地---

參觀完一樓,趁時間尚早,又到了3樓的天台逛逛。The Pawn Roof是個透著天然光的大平台,亦是天價$50,000情人節餐的用餐地點,說著也真好奇今晚有沒有豪客預訂這裡呢? 由頂層又可眺望街下灣仔風光,假期當日繁華的街道也頓變清靜,看著別有一番風味。

也是時間去到預約的2/F Dining room,去享用我倆的午餐了。這層格局十分fine-dining,與樓下Living Room的悠閒感,是兩種截然不同的感覺。店內又設海鮮吧,擺放著各式新鮮生蠔,不過二人只望了一眼後,就繼續前往真正的目的地---戶外露台位。

是的,在訂檯時侍者會詢問要就坐室內或室外,我訂的就是洋溢英倫古典風味的戶外露台位。露台與室內餐廳之間,以風味舊式扇門相隔,予人感覺是自成一角,尤其用餐初段只得二人,感覺有如包場,情調、氣氛及景致都是一流! 看著老公也流露出滿意的笑容,可以說,是日在享用美食前,先享受飽了美景!

麵包籃,之後她還會來幾次詢問要否需要添加,服務不錯;但其實麵包只得兩款,先吃麥包覺得挺好,淨白的法包就普通吧。

之前訂檯時侍者告之初二也有三道菜午餐($150/位)供應,但當日來到卻換上全a la carte餐牌,價錢約是三倍多,幸而經理了解情況後也願意給我們提供午餐選項。午餐的頭盤、主菜與甜品各有兩款選擇,不用多想就每樣來一份試試,最先上檯是
Cream of mushroom soup with truffle oil,圖中份量已經二分為一,令人驚訝;而且湯身是想不到的濃郁足料,每口也充滿著細碎菇肉及其香味,再加上松露油,幾美味的。看到餐牌這湯標價是$65,即是單點也是物有所值!

Salad of chicken with wild mushrooms,份量又是非常充足,因雞肉特嫩又帶一定肉汁,蘑菇又是非常juicy,用上的生菜又新鮮,整個組合很是清新怡人,最後又清光了。

隔了一刻,主菜也上檯了,我選了
Pan-fried fillet of sole, sauce vierge, wild leaves,份量果然較頭盤更加巨大,龍脷柳共有兩大件,而且都是極端新鮮的上佳貨色,吃時中間魚汁豐盈,在FB中有相為證! 而且煎得微香金黃的魚身上,堆著清新的蕃茄粒及釣味的香草,令魚的鮮美更得以彰顯發揮,真的令我十分欣賞,是以巨大的一份也全部吃光了,只剩伴碟少量沙律菜。

老公的主菜是
Beer braised beef, buttered mash, oven roast tomato, red wine gravy,又是巨型身量的牛肉炆得十分鬆化,切開可見成絲紋理,然而紅酒汁的調味稍淡,未能突出牛肉的吸引力。反而我幾欣賞配菜的薯蓉,很香又滑且熱暖,引人一口接一口的地吃,不知不覺吞了很多!

至於我,則更喜歡第二款的Banana and walnut cake, toffee sauce, toasted walnut,香蕉合桃蛋糕有一定質量,但質感是富彈性而非死實,上檯時熱度還挺高,加上甜蜜蜜的拖肥醬,香甜熱暖兼有之,滋味很合我意,為這餐劃上一個美妙句號。順便講一句,此店散叫甜品劃一收費$75,並不太貴,甜魔也可考慮來搞局的。

最後埋單時又收到一封利是,呵,原來是由店方送出、同集團的餐廳(包括SML、Press Room、Classified等,有些真的不說不知)的優惠劵,多謝了! 其實能以這般超值價,享受如此美景美食,為初二Eat play love三部曲揭開美好的序幕,已經不能再滿足了。在這裡也祝大家有沒情人都好,都可享有甜美愉快的一天!

餐廳原來已打烊,丈著朋友的大面子,還是可以坐到三樓的露天位置,吃甜品傾下計。朱古力蛋糕、蘋果酥餅外,還發現原來這裡也有不少砵酒供應,又叫來一杯襯甜品。幾款甜品中最喜歡是濃味的朱古力蛋糕,冬天吃也有補充熱量作用,然後小杯砵酒,這夜,是寫意亦輕鬆。

This is my second time visiting the Pawn, first time coming for my birthday dinner. On my second time, we came in a totally different occasion, just a casual early lunch with small group of friends, sitting on the terrace overlooking the busy streets of Wanchai.

Coming without too much expectation for the food gives me a much better experience this time! I love their brunch-like lunch menu, which is perfect on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the Eggs benedict with loch fyne smoked salmon (very british choice of smoked salmon indeed!). Very nice Eggs benedict, served warm with eggs cooked just right!

Although this was a December afternoon, the heaters stood around us kept us fairly warm (at times even a bit too warm) throughout the meal. I like how it is not too busy on a weekend afternoon, gives you plenty of privacy to have a good chat with friends. But honestly The Pawn would not be the best choice to me for a fine dining place. I think its the decor (the wooden chairs & tables) & the food give me the feeling that this is a better place for a more casual dinner/ drinks with friends.

二樓餐廳12點剛開始營業,我落座後,點了set lunch,沒有選擇坐在陽臺上,而是坐在廳裡,我也沒有選擇朝著窗外的風景坐,而是背對街景面向室內的吧台而坐,一切是下意識的,不過後面想來也許是因為窗外的風景不夠誘人,室內如油畫般的裝修、忙碌的服務生、和陸續進來用餐的形形色色人成了更能引起我觀賞興趣的風景。
頭盤是蔬菜沙拉,醋汁的酸甜和幹cheese的濃厚搭配,還有核桃的點綴,蔬菜是既清爽又味道層次豐富,很滿意;
主菜我點的是roasted bass,沒有複雜的調料,但是魚烤得很鮮很嫩,拌菜我就吃了tomato,也許我不喜歡香菜的調味,拌菜吃得不多;
甜品是brownie,真的很甜,所以用鮮奶油來綜合,但是我一不喜歡太甜,二不喜歡太膩,只得用少許奶油蘸巧克力醬吃,呵呵,這次經驗告訴我和chocolate有關的不適合我。
Beverage方面,我有點水和mango juice,這餐總的說來很清爽。
服務方面,等餐的時間有點長,特別是主菜;服務生很利索,收拾、換餐具都挺快,笑容也不錯,不像風聞的那麼差;不過結帳時發生小插曲,我用現金結,居然少補了我一百塊,後面我追了回來,這是電腦還是人腦的失誤呢?
最後,洗手間不錯,每間有單獨的洗漱台,古銅色主導,很懷舊啊。
吃飽了,又接著漫步港島咯。

Restaurants serving good British cuisine have always been rare commodities in Hong Kong but the recently opened, The Pawn, is poised to change this perception in a hurry.
On paper, the Pawn certainly has what it takes. They have assembled an excellent team with a proven track record. Their executive chef, Dave Tamlyn, served as an apprentice to Marco Pierre White, who was best known for mentoring the famous Gordon Ramsay and their pastry chef has trained at The Wolseley, which was one of the most difficult tables to get in London.
Another impressive selling points are the location and ambiance. The restaurant is centrally located among the busy street of Hennessy Road and is easily accessible by walk from anywhere in Wanchai. And if you like historical architecture, this will definitely be your cup of tea. The restaurant is housed in a nicely restored heritage building which used to be a century old pawn shop. If you are not shy of winds and rains, you can pick a table on the outdoor terrace overlooking the heart of Wanchai.
The interior is tastefully decorated with a colonial twist as well. As we all know, 'space' is somewhat of a luxury when it comes to restaurants in Wanchai. For most restaurants that cannot afford the spacing, tables are often scrambled together making it very difficult for one not to overhear someone else's conversation. But you certainly won't see it here at the Pawn. Privacy is almost guaranteed, as the tables are nicely separated with great distance from one another.
We arrived at the restaurant a little bit late for lunch so we were starving the moment we sat down. Looking over my shoulder, I saw a gentleman having fish and chips. Two large pieces of fish fillet, deep fried to golden colour, yet not oily in texture. I was tempted to give it a try but too bad we were having an important meeting in the afternoon and I decided to order something of a lighter variety so I won't be falling asleep during the meeting.
Shrimp soup with dill (Grade: 3/5)
A carbon copy of your average lobster bisque. Very strong in flavour and it was served with two small pieces of toasts.
Pork loin (Grade: 3/5)
The pork loin looked a bit rough in texture but it actually tasted better than it looked. The dish was served with a special gravy sauce, potato and purple onion.
Whisky ice cream (Grade: 2.5/5)
At first, it tasted like whisky on a rock (probably because it just came straight out of the frigate) but when the ice cream started to melt and soften, it had gotten better. Nevertheless, the taste of whisky was a bit too strong for my liking.
All in all, it was a pleasant dining experience. Both my friend and I concurred that the food could use some improvement but the atmosphere probably warranted some extra marks here and there. I would certainly recommend this place without reservation.

Then later we had to struggle to get someone's attention and bring the bill. This place aspires to be upscale, but it needs upscale staff then.....not the usual Hong Kong "hurry up I'm busy" attitude.
