In November, my friend received a promotion advertisement about this restaurant for December, it stated $289 per head +10% service charge, the price is unbelievable cheap, called to re-confirm whether it would applied on public holidays, the receptionist replied "YES", so we tried to reserve a table at noon, but she said there would be two time slot, either started at 11am or 1.30pm, we understand it's very common restaurants doing two time slots nowadays, then we marked at 11am. We were happy
On the date of our lunch, my friends arrived and being told the menu has been changed and the price increased as well because that $289 menu not for public holiday, they accepted and stayed. The rest of us arrived, heard it and all shocked, indeed, felt being cheated. Well, it's holdiay, we didn't want to ruin it.
We ordered both sets, they serving the same food, the only difference is the choice of drinks, the cheaper set without alcoholic drinks but the other with alcoholic drinks.
Our starters: first the Lobster macaroni cheese came, soon Coronation chicken salad with gem lettuce, almonds and Avocado on wheat toast, Market fish ceviche, tiger's milk came last.
I didn't taste any lobster, on the other hand, very strong cheese favour in macaroni; chicken salad is ok; but I quite like the avocado toast, full of avocado on top with a few leaves, so creamy! Seriously, want another piece! As told the fish is kind of sushi (raw fish), I didn't touch it at all and shared to my friends, they said taste good.
While we finished our starters, waiting our mains, my friend had her white wine and rosé. We enjoyed our gathering, and appreciated the restaruant provided a small gift to each customer, it's a little tricks, opened it, there were a piece of paper written 2 jokes and a trivia, and a tiny stationery, brought us an extra fun time!
Our mains were chicken and steak, here they came, when the waitress asked who ordered steak, I couldn't believe that' steak, it's totally out of expectation, they served it as 3 thin strips of steak, actually no one asked me how would I like it to cook, strange, urh?! Other than that, though it is not well done, a bit rare, guess it's medium, unfortunately, not all the strips were tender, honestly, they're a bit dry. They came along with 2 pieces of baked potato, some long beans and a Yorkshire pudding. Baked potatoes still kept the softie texture and the pudding was great. Long beans, just boiled them, taste alright. My friends' chicken were great, a grilled chicken, with a pot of veggie (sliced potatoes and carrots) as side dish. They said the chicken was tender, and I believe they were telling the truth since they usually eat less but finished them all this time.
Desserts... we were wondering where were ours as getting tight to return our table. The waitress shown us they served in buffet style, we moved and grabbed our bites. Technically, we weren't that "grabbed our bites", although time was running, each of us took 2-3 pieces to enjoy. We had many, such as muffins, tarts, etc. In conclusion, we all recommended apple tart with crumbled topping, the crumbled topping (feel like cinnamon added) was perfect match with the softie apple. Had a bite of it, the warm and softie taste, the favour of apple, feel like in spring! The tart was right in the middle, not too thick nor too thin, not much butter as well, at least, we didn't feel too full after it.
Drinks - we had 1 smooties for non-alcoholic set only but unlimited water refill. My friend who went for the alcoholic set, had a glass of rosé, white wine, coffee and also unlimited water refill. She said that set is good value for money.
In no doubt, changed menu and price without noticification is very bad experience. In general, the environment is excellent, spacious, not jam packed tabling system even though it was public holiday, of coz the historical building is stunning. There is a play room for children playing, it's very caring arrangement.
