Having heard a lot about the burgers and shakes at Triple O's, I finally got my first try with a chicken strip and vanilla shake combo today. And I must say I was underhwelmed.
Let's start with the shake. It looked the part - creamy white and thick as half-melted ice cream, but tasted bland and lacking in dairy richness. I'm not sure if low-fat or skimmed milk has been used, but if so that'd be missing the point of a shake completely. The vanilla flavour was also quite weak.
Next up, the strips. Again, they looked mightily appetizing. Fried to a dark golden-brown, with no excess grease, while the batter was thin and completely adhered to the meat. But the chicken tasted like it wasn't seasoned at all. I'm sure appropriate amounts of salt went into it, but perhaps either the meat or the batter mix could use a little spicing-up. I was happy to see that I was given salt and pepper packs, as these strips desperately need some DIY seasoning, but strangely the pepper pack that came with it, despite its black packaging, contained WHITE pepper. I'm not sure if somebody in their management decided this was a nod to local tastes, but I think it's a universal rule that black pepper is mandatory with this type of food.
And as for the fries, they're mediocre in every sense of the word and don't warrant much description nor critique.
Oh, and one more thing, while I"m all for a free job market and have absolutely nothing against foreign workers in the F&B industry, it gets a little confusing when local staff insists on speaking to you in accented English, and non-Chinese workers take your orders in broken Cantonese.
There are far too many niche burger joings in town to justify a second visit to this place.
