What happened to the Tsui Wah that I know? Where I can get HK style toasts, great egg tarts, and a smorgasbord of crazy interior decor styles?
Ok, the last point isn't really missed after the new renovation, but I'm terribly disappointed with the new menu. 3 of us went for afternoon tea, expecting to fill our bellies with some classic Hong Kong dishes. Here's what we tried to get but they no longer have: French toast, egg tarts, and satay beef with mixed instant noodles.
We ended up settling for the satay beef noodles in the soupy form, which was alright but the flavor was more diluted in this variation. We also ordered the condensed milk over toasted bun. Decent as it was served warm and toasty, with a good fluffy texture in the bun. This is becoming such a rant that I'll skip the iced lemon teas that took forever to make.
My point is, this Tsui Wah location is trying too hard to be something it isn't, and it has lost its charm as a local cha chan tang with an expansive menu. Its menu is now expensive and more western. If I wanted a high tea set, I would have gone to Four Seasons. If I wanted pizza, I would have gone to a real pizzeria. Guess I'm going elsewhere for my previous favorites at Tsui Wah.
