To encourage eatery outlets to reduce food waste at source together with customers through offering portioned meals and adopting food waste reduction measures, the Environmental Protection Department has launched the “Food Wise Eateries” Scheme. Participants will be awarded with a Food Wise Eateries (FWE) accreditation status if they comply with the assessment criteria and will be granted with the FWE Logo and Stickers for displaying in the premises and their promotion for public identification. Applications are accepted all year round and are FREE of charge.

To promote a new salt and sugar reduction (RSS) dietary culture and living style to the people of Hong Kong, the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Committee on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food and the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have launched the "Less-Salt-and-Sugar Restaurants Scheme" ("Scheme"). Restaurants participated in the Scheme will offer less salt or sugar options to the consumer or even tailor-make less salt or sugar dishes in designated restaurants. Participating restaurants will be granted with the Scheme Labels for displaying in the premises for public identification. 好懷念以前香港仔舊大街, 有一檔擺街的麵檔。那個「以前」, 已經是十多年前, 那時沒有吃過九記、群記或安利, 不知道甚麼是崩砂腩坑腩或爽腩, 只知道深夜偷偷出街吃一碗牛腩河, 加入橙色的辣椒醬, 再來一碟油菜, 也不會理會吃消夜是否影響腸胃。時移勢易, 香港仔已經變了很多。不過, 像響噹噹的謝記魚蛋, 和「冇咁響噹噹」的南記粉麵, 仍然屹立不倒, 倒是值得慶賀的事。南記以前也像旺角街邊麵檔般, 儘管有一個小小的舖, 但「家徒四壁」, 只有若干摺摺, 在現在成都道98號巴士站的舖位經營。後來, 憑鴛鴦粉麵(魚蛋、牛丸加像鮮竹卷的春卷)做出口碑, 在銅鑼灣、中環、灣仔都開了分店, 在香港仔也有兩間。好記得中學時, 南記的老闆是我的鄰居, 碰到面都打聲招呼。而食lunch時, 常吃叉燒魚餃瀨, 拼命加冬菜和豆瓣醬, 吃完個口噴火, 便去便利店買雪條吃, 食辣的能力也是在當時開始修練而成。事隔多年, 吃的是它的鴛鴦瀨, 味道沒有差到, 豆瓣醬還是辣得過癮, 只是人面全非。
